Question question about fuel filters and water separators

as some of y'all know, I purchased a truck that was missing the fuel filter. it has a carter 4601hp pump on it that I am going to relocate to the frame close to the tank. can I run a water separator before the lift pump and a fuel filter after it? just want to make sure the pump will be able to draw through the filter and push through one also. wix 4770 and 3352 are the filters I will be using.

If your talking about a 2nd gen truck, I'd run a prefilter ahead of the lift pump and drop in a factory filter in the canister. This will net you about the best low cost filtration.

yes, '99 24 valve. I can't run the factory setup because the p.o. removed the entire housing. I ordered 2 filter heads, a 14 micron water separator, and a 2 micron fuel filter from fleetpride.

Can you build something like this....fairly easy to buy and then you'll have easy spin-on filtration.

I've built many of these and use one on my truck then to the factory filter...worked well for years.

that's very similar to what I am putting together except I will be running the w/s before the LP and the ff after it.

I am not certain asking the fuel pump to both push and pull through two filters like that is such a good idea......if it were me I would put one of these inline in front of the pump http://www.dodge-diesel.org/3flinst.html and then put the w/s and filter together after the fuel pump.........just my thoughts....

Say, Larry, on this page http://www.dodge-diesel.org/gldipopr.html what is the kit pictured above the strainer? There doesn't appear to be any 411 on it? Sorry to hijack thread for this.

I'd normally run a pusher pump or single LP in between the two filters. Your preference on how you decide to set it up...just make sure you have good consistent fuel psi.

I'm running a Raycor 4120 fuel filter/water seperator unit (Spin-On Series) before my lift pump (FASS). I've had this setup for approx. 5-6 yrs. The Raycor 4120 unit is designed to be used pre or post the lift pump and has excellent flow rates on vacuum and pressure. I use this filter as my pre-filter.

It is very easy to change and has a air-bleed valve and integrated primer pump. You can also add a fuel bowl heater if you live in cold climates and to drain the water you just turn the **** on the fuel bowl.

I also have my stock fuel filter on the engine and every time I check it for replacement, it is as clean as the day I installed it.

Info. links are below... Hope this helps.
