I would say first start off with gauges, exhaust, and intake. From there I would suggest if hes got an auto trans getting a built auto. If its a manual then getting a dual disk clutch. From there buy a bigger turbo with head a head stud kit and 3 piece exhaust manifold. Intercooler kits are nice but pricey as everything else is. Turn up his fuel pump and put a bigger fuel plate in it... Put bigger fuel injectors in it as well. I think all of that should definitly do him fine

Talk to Corey at performance diesel warehouse or Garrett at pure diesel power. Both extremely helpful, great service, great prices, you cant beat either of these two guys/companies as far as customer service and price.

http://www.puredieselpower.com/

Also one might be closer to you depending on where you or your friend live.

*Dont work for either of these companies just had great experiences with them.

Hope this helps,

If you want to drag race in it then i would put an auto in it, diesel are very slow shifting and you will need quite a bit more horsepower on a manual to match the time of the auto (I would say about 100-150hp extra). You can drag race with a manual though it will just be slower than an auto.

I would look at it this way, if it is mainly going to be a drag racing truck then get an auto. If it is going to be a street machine with occasional drag racing then i would stick with the manual.

In the end it is up to you guys what you do and where you spend your money, I am just trying to give you some information I received when I was looking at buying a truck to hop up.

Hope this helps

Adam

i sure will this comming week we will be tearing the truck apart to check the wiring and drop the pan to checkout the bottom end take the head off have a look at the cylinders and such then if everything is looking good we will start ordering parts......the money we have right now is for the big things like fire ringing the head, turbo(s),clutch,p-pump,injectors,cooler,etc. the small things like gauges, lift pump,etc.....ill post pics up soon of the truck and the build
