Pulling truck
Pulling truck
What is the best way to go around creating a pulling truck, another words should I start looking for a 12 valve or a 24 valve?? Which one will put out the most power in the long run?? I have my eye on a 94 ctd 4x4 with a 5 speed is this a good starting point?? I appreciate your help.
OhioRam,
A 12 valve Cummins is probably the best way to go for a pulling truck. It has a P-7100 mechanical injection pump and can be tuned to do more than a 24 valve. On the 1994 cummins you will have a 160 pump and most will tell you that a 215 pump is where you should begin. These pumps can have governer springs installed to rev to 4000 rpm's and even more. Cam plates, delivery valves, governor springs, afc springs, and injectors seem to be a much less expensive way to gain serious HP and torque than the upgrades on a 24 valve although 24 valves can be made pretty wicked. If you are serious about pulling, I would contact Enterprise Engine, Scheid Diesel, Haisley Machine, or Piers Diesel Research for information for pulling. These guys know pretty much everything there is to know about pulling. Also go to Thunder in Muncie on June 5th and 6th and see what truck pulling, drag racing, and dynoing is all about!!
Hope this helps,

Building a pulling truck is easy. Follow these steps:
1. Quit school
2.Get High paying job
3.Buy a van and live in it down by the river
4 Continue living in that van down by the river for a solid year.
5. Take the money you made and buy 2 of everything you can get your hands on.
6.Walk everywhere because the pulling truck and your van will always be broke
.
Seriously though a 12 valve with about 700 ponies would be the way to go. But dont mess around and try to just get by, you will have to buy the best of EVERYTHING. Other wise youll end up going back and fixin' it anyways.
Good luck and happy spending,
Scott
