Question Power Edge Comp Settings for MPG's ???

I have just installed a Power Edge Comp on my '99 Quad Cab 3/4 Ton. Bought the box used from a friend, cheap enough I could justify it! What are the best settings for increasing MPG's, not only which power level setting, but what setting on the low boost fueling menu. Right now, that's all I'm concerned with. I've been getting 16 - 16.5 on the average, and that's driving back and forth to work and running the kids around to all of their activities. This truck has no other modifications and has about 152K miles on it, automatic transmission. Also, I did not install the boost elbow, friend said that it wasn't necessary. I kind of question that since it came in the box, and the instruction manual tells you how to install it. Do I need to install this elbow or not ?? Any responses would be appreciated.

I get my best mileage with it off. To get the best mileage, drive to produce as little smoke, and keep boost as low, as possible.

I believe that as you go up from 1 to 5 you increase the timing. On the subsettings on each level you can dial up or down the low boost fueling to add or remove smoke. I thing my best settings have been 2 x 1 for mileage. I would think more timing and less fueling would give you better fuel economy. I've just reinstalled my comp with my TST and running it as an EZ. I'll try and expirament with it maybe even trying level 5 x 1. Not sure how that will effect things. I now have my Smarty back on non timing mode. Just trying some things to see the best combo.

Tiger.... that's quite the stack you are trying...

luf02145.. I think the 99's had the rubber line on the wastegate.. I'd install the elbow.. its not going to help much with fuel economy empty.. but the wastegate is currently limiting your boost to about 20psi... If you have the hardline on the waste gate.. they should have provided some little orfices with the Comp.. or you can go with the turnbuckle on the wastegate.. (do a search for turnbuckle..)

Well, in theory it shouldn't be much different than running the comp and letting it doing the fueling and timing and running the Smarty on the non-timing setting. I had heard great things about the TST/Smarty stack that I wanted to try it. I already had the Comp but figured I'd pull it out and sell it. Well before I sell it, I thought I'd experiment some. I figure I'll do an hour at the dyno in the near future try many different combo's and hopefully I'll have some good feedback for folks here on this site. I'll keep y'all posted....

I'd install the boost elbow and GET A FUEL PRESSURE GUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!
It is a must have, almost necessary item in your truck.
It will save you some major bucks in the future.
P.S Welcome to the DTR.

I just put mine on and am running in EZ mode. I ran in 2x3 and picked up 2 miles a gallon. Bumped it up to 3x3 to see what, if any, effect that has. I'll let you know what I find. Sound like I ought to try 2x1 and 3x1 as well. Taking a road trip this weekend. I'll play around with it.

Hate to tell you guys but if your driving for mileage you will never push the throttle down far enough to use the comp box! Once the box comes in you get added fuel and less economy! Maybe just 1x1 could help with the little added timing as long as you are very light on the throttle.
