Possible tire sizes on stock rims / lift?

My truck has stock rims and no lift kit. Wonder what size tires I could stuff in there to try and counteract the bad fuel economy of the 4.10's in my truck.
Are 315's too large to fit in the well, or made for a different rim?
If I could mount somehting that large on the stock rim then Im guessing tire flex might affect handling?

If you put the leveling kit in the front, that will allow larger tires. With the kit you could probable run a 255/85-16 (33" tall). Your truck should have a 6.5" wide wheel this will work well with this tire.

The 315/75-16 is 35" tall and 12.5" wide.

255/85 is a good size for the factory 16x6.5" wheels. I can't really go much bigger-- maybe 285s (which are the same height, though).

You'd have to have the factory 16x8s to run a 285 or 315 tire.

We have the stock rims on the 97 with 315's. They do give some tire hop on bumps but it is minimal. They seem to handle fine. I am working on getting a set of 8" aluminiums for though. It has no lift on, but I did trim the plastic on the bottom of the front bumper. The do rub on the control arms and the plastic fender well.

Ive got factory rims, which Im pretty sure are 16's. If the 315s are that large in the wheel well maybe Id do better with a 305.
Im assuming the tires rub control arms at full steer? Did you remove any of the plastic inside the wheelhouse?

I run 285s on a 2.5 inch skyjacker lift

Can fit 305's easy... U can run tires that large to get a better rear end ratio on the highway with minimal lift on our rams... but as Randy said.. u need to do some minor trimming...

The tires rub at a turn and a half. Worse to the left then to the right. I left the plastic in. I just rubs along it in a turn when the axle is pushed up on one side or the other. There are no edges to catch. Someday I'll clearence it and lay composite in place to cover the hole.

I've heard tell no to go with a tire any bigger than 33'' on a truck w/ no lift. You're so right about the 4:10 rear gear ratio. I only get a lil over 14 MPG on my stock wheels.

I will be selling my stock wheels that are in absoultely beautiful condition w/ only a tiny ding here and there (39k on wheels)

PM ME IF ANYONE INTERESTED!!!!!!

I run 255's on my truck and have no lift. Plus I have 4:10's. They help out quite nicely with the overall gear ratio of the truck, plus only being 255mm wide opposed to 285 or 305, there is a smaller contact patch of rubber with the ground which means better fuel mileage also. IMHO, can't go wrong with the 255's. Plus they're usually cheaper than the wider sizes as well.

I am running 285s on the stock rims for the winter, and I have a little extra wieght up front with the bumper, I had spacrs up front but took them out, {going back in though, once I get my airbags in the back} but I have no rubbing issues whatsoever at stock hight. I had 305s on the stock rims, and they would rub on the bottom 4-link bars on the suspension,at full lock turns, but nothing big.

-285s on stock rims

I am running 285's with stock lift and have no issues. They do grip and brake a lot better than the 245's plus I can run about 60 lbs, may have even dropped to 55 lbs up front . My 245's had to run at 70lb just to barely keep the outsides from wearin off. My 285's I had to keep droppin pressure to keep the middle from wearin'. I am running Cooper Adventurers.
