Playing with Smarty

I was playing around with Smarty this morning... I've had mine since late February and have been running SW#9 since day one but this morning I switched it too SW#5, you can definitely feel a difference in pedal response but the ultimate power is still there. It was a nice program for my injectors and I think it would be an ideal program for really big sticks and a fuel only box. After driving around a while on #5 I decided I'd see what stock was like.... oh boy, how does anyone drive around with the stock program?? Even with DD3's there is hardly a hint of smoke and the truck is an absolute dog.... it's obviously gotta be worse with stock injectors. I can't imagine too many people test the software and don't immediately want to buy the product...

I don't know if I'd go that far... all you have to do is pull over and reprogram.

I was playing around with the Smarty last weekend. I had been using #7 at the track, decided to try number 9. First run on #9 I went from a 1.91 60' best time to a 1.84, second run I broke my output shaft. You can't control the boost with number 9 and TST, way too aggressive. I'll use 9 with the box off from now on or until I get a billet shaft.

So far #7 works best for me. I might give #5 a shot at the track/dyno this weekend.

Anytime I get the itch for a new 3rd Gen truck... I do 2 things:
1 - Return as close as possible to stock power (turn TST off & set Smarty to stock)....
2 - Look up total from all $'s spent to get my 02 where it is!
The itch turns to a rash very quickly

Note: Test driving a dealers new stock truck will work as well...but there are obvious dangers in trying on a shinny new interior!

Well I was running 7 then went to nine. Decided to drop down to 5 for smoke control and man do I miss nine. I see seven in my future soon

That's how RJohnson got me hooked

I hear ya. I set it back to stock for the ride from my house to the dealer for something last week. It sucked. Luckily, I brought the Smarty with me and reprogrammed it within about .2 miles of the dealer.

I really don't find that much difference between 5, 7, and 9 once you retrain your foot.

I *do* like that 5 is more stable over rough pavement. Hit a rough spot at low speed on #9 can start a vicious on-off-on cycle.

It's like I get "death wobble" in the fuel pedal

For the most part though, 9 is as smooth as anything else. It's all how you drive it. The learning curve is a lot steeper (as the fueling rate gets steeper) for #9, so I'll probably crank it down before I send my truck on 2-yr hiatus with my Dad.

ok guys i really want to either try a smarty or at least ride in a truck with one. i no, i no, i might as well just go ahead and buy one but i really want to feel the difference. my question is will it benefit me at all since i wont be able to use the timing programes becuase of my drag comp. will i still get the low end power of the smarty with just the fuel programes.

yet another side effect of Smarty.... I drove too and from Topeka, KS and some while I was there and the odometer read 325 miles and the fuel guage still was a bit above 1/2 tank when I got back on Friday night.... 20 mpg is back with Smarty #9 and DD3's after dropping into the 18mpg range with the EZ and DD3's.

Smarty Fan

I had a Smarty #9 downloaded into my truck yesterday and the difference in driveability was amazing. Immediate throttle response and unlimited top end without the 2700-2900 rpm limit I get with my current mods. My friend w/99 six-speed experienced the same response. We got back into our everyday modded trucks and returned glances that said,"These trucks suck now!" Saving cans and bottles now for a Smarty. Thanks,Marco!
