hmmmm .... you need decently stocked shop , and have just a little Jessie James in ya . I guess what i am saying is that this is not for a total amateur, but you dont have to be a cummins tech either. a welder is a must have ( lots of little brackets i made my self ) ALSO ... CRUISE WORKS you need to leave the TPS in place .its all good except the check engine light ... boy iwont miss that either

So does the truck make as much power as before? What are your plans for the old VP44, target practice? Whats the differance in drivablity between the two pumps?

as of right now (before tuning in ) about the same as the TST COMP on level 9 through the low to mid , BUT ... WAY more power on top end , having some fuel delivery issues, will work them out soon. Actually, the 7100 has more manners than my VP power for power. As for the VP it was traded for the 7100. But shooting it would have been to easy, I was thinking more of a sledge-hammer

Sounds like good news for you, bad new for me. I still own a VP44 pump!! So what are you running for a lift pump? Did you put in the mechanical pump or just used your old fuel system? Your answers are helping me mentally prepare myself for the same task once my warranty expires.

three lp's-- factory , carter 4601hp , 4600hp (listed in reverse order) putting out 45psi at idle , min of 25 at full load . UPDATE got the fuel prob fixed last nite ... i forgot the ground wire on factory LP , it wasn't even running , guess that answers my question .... yes you can force fuel through a dead lift pump

It depends on what you are trying to do with the truck. Is it a daily driver that does not tow, or are you planning on having a trailer behind you alot?

They like alot of timing, but that will put added strain on the head gasket. How much boost are you running?

I don't think you are going to get JetPilot, or any high HP 12'ver telling you exactly what their timing is,,, the tiuming is the 12v tuning secret,, and is propriety info to the owner of the truck.

Factory is 12,5* A stock headgasket won't live above 15.5-16 and most "turned up" trucks will run 20, and the Really "hot" trucks will run upwards of 30+... I've heard of a few running 40+.

Hope this helps.

Travis:

Send me a P.M. and I will help you out with the timing issues!
Don't let Merrick bother you, he just doesn't want anybody
to catch his truck that's all!!

Heh Merrick,.......I wanted to let you know I ran 16 degrees
of timing on the "stock" headgasket on my 96' 12 valve
for quite awhile before I EVER had any problems!! Now you
might ask,..."Well what finally blew the headgasket?"
It was the B-1 Turbo putting out 60-65 lbs. of boost
on a regular basis! IMO,.....TOO MUCH boost for the
"stock" 12 valve headgasket!!

Anyway, as you would say Merrick......"Just my .02cents
worth!"

Timing is dependent upon many factors..... RPM range desired, amount of fuel, mods to engine etc. Merrick is correct on different strokes for different strokes. Personally I would recommend starting around 16* and work up using a dyno to get the most HP in the RPM range you are looking for. The more fuel you run the more advance you will need. Also the headgasket can be a timebomb if the timing is too high without an O-ringed head. Some guys run high timing with no problems and others blow them out pretty quick. I do know John_P's red rocket haul A**s, however he has his timing set!

As for my truck I am running way past 20* not to 40* (yet)! If you want any more info pm me and I will shoot you my phone number and we can discuss it from there. Also I am glad things are working well for you with this mod.

Doug
