[QUOTE=cummnz4x4pwr]??????

What did you do about the cam/lift pump situation
??You revved it to 3800 w/o floating the valves???
Do you have aftermarket springs and retainers
How did you do the machine work on the front cover. or did you machine the head instead????

Same cam I run a fass system
Yep
not yet, maybe in the spring
Got a timing case made up from EEP

As for the cruise, the cable is hooked to the linkage where the main throttle cable hooks up, I don't know if it works yet or not might try that tomorrow. Doesn't matter anyway I never liked the way the cruise worked with a hopped up truck

WOW... i leave for a few days and you guys get in to a major debate !! COOL !!!

good reading though couple points i'd like to add

1 - the 12 valve head flows BETTER when ported , 24 out folws 12 when stock, PEROID ... FACT ( call around , you'll see)
also do most people know .... that to double volume of flow only roughly 25% increase in dia. is needed??? it takes roughly 4- 2 in. pipes to flow the same as 1 - 4in. pipe ! ] just a little info to help understand those holes in the head and why they work the way they do

2- i did not do my conversion because the p-pumped 24 valve was better than 12 valve setup.... i did it cause it was all i had to work with , if could have just bought a 98 12 valve motor complete i would have

3 - the cruise works on my 98 ... it should with all of them ..but you know how that goes, e-mail me and i ll get in contact with and help how ever i can

This has turned in to a monster thread...

Quick question...for you guys out there who have done the p-pump conversion what are you doing in the lift pump area. I really don't see a lot being mentioned other than travis using three lift pumps in succession. Is anyone out there using a 24v cam with the mechanical lobe or is it not really essential? Excellent thread gentlemen!

Formula 1 is making a cam that is designed just for the p-pumped 24v. This cam is a much better option than just going with a plain 24v or 12v cam. Give us a call if we can answer any questions.

this thing is still alive !!! the super thread !!!

LIFT PUMP :
I am going to go to a FASS system as soon as my current setup dies (not to long ) from my time i'v spent around them i have been impressed

NOTE!!! I would be thinking bout the cam/ mech. lift pump idea if there wasn't so much involved ( $ and work) ...haha , me saying that ..go figure
because no doubt that setup can make the power , i think that either setup is great i am just going the FASS route for ease and money ( and power !!)

Truck is still going great !!!

Travjrath,
Could you post a dyno sheet? How are the horsepower and torque curves (as well as peak numbers) for your setup?

I think you'll pickup some low end and throttle response with a electric fuel pump, constant pressure and volume helps.

I guess I never noticed this particular post until now. Unfortunately I just picked up a 12V cam brand new in the box. What are the specs on the new p-pumped 24V cam VS a "regular" 12V/24V cam that make it a much better option? Let's talk lift, duration, LS, ramp speeds, etc.

On another note, I started buying some more little pieces for the Cummins conversion. I'm hoping I'll head back to Texas some time in March/April so I can start putting all these parts together and actually drive my F250 again. My King Ranch F150 Supercrew has spoiled me...bad. I don't know how I'm gonna act when I'm back to driving my F250 XL.

I know I've asked this before, but does anyone have a good source for the P-pump conversion lines? I found them for $375ish one time but it's been so long I don't remember who it was from.

Super4X4Duty:

You asked about the lift/duration on a 12 valve cam. I can't speak for any of the "aftermarket" companies, but I think the lift/duration on a "stock" 12 valve cam for the 180 engine is around 180/250, or vice versa. I don't know if any of the aftermarket companies will tell you exactly where there cams are at,..........."trade secrets" if you know what I mean.

You also asked about a good source for P-Pump conversion lines. You can give Mike Wood a call at "Scheid Diesel", Effingham, Illinois @ 1-800-669-1934 and he should be able to help you out. He drives a 96' Dodge CTD that has a 24V conversion and their company has done the conversions for others too.

Hope this helps you some.

Im happy to see all the hype about the p-pump conversion

I alone have gotten about 10-12 phone calls from people asking questions about the conversion, just this week.

What kind of MPG are you P-pump guys getting. I know it depends on driving style, tires, blah, blah, blah. I'm just looking for a ball park figure.
