P Pump Conversion

Anyone done one or had one done?? Pros/cons??. How difficult is it and what is the approximate cost ?? I know Piers has done some but I believe they recommend against it. I sure wouldnt mind getting rid of the junk Vp-44. Anyone have any insight??

Piers, himself told me that I would lose my truck for about a month and he would have to take my house for a down payment. I'm throwing around the idea myself, but I might just buy a spare motor and do the install myself. Man that stopid pump is pricey. I asked Piers if I could buy half the shop so I could get a price break.

One thing that I have not noticed discussed here, is the 1,000 Psi pressure difference between the VP44 and the P7100. (P7100 is less). How is this dealt with on a conversion? Injectors can be adjusted to the lower pop off pressure, but the flow through the injector nozzle would be about 12% less. I belive this to be the reason some people have noticed less total HP and top end power with this conversion.... If of course nothing else was done injector-wise.... Obviously you could just go with bigger injectors and we all know the P will deliver WAY more fuel and ultimately make tons more power as long as you have BIG holes.....

Just curious.... I hear about the timing cover, the injector lines, linkage etc. but no one mentions the injectors or the 1,000 Psi drop in pressure.....

The real-word effect is it changes the timing a little.

When I was at Piers they were doing a conversion and he told me the only time it MIGHT be worth the money and effort if you were trying for all out performance. He also said that up to 600hp the VP is alot more streetable? I would have to say you would be better off selling your VP equiped truck and replacing it with a 97 or 98 12V instead of doing the conversion.

I agree....BUT I need a quad cab so I guess the search continues...I guess I may need to lower my standards a bit.

Dr Evil, I've been looking for just a 96-98, 12v clubcab CTD, has to be 4WD and has to have a 5spd, but I can't even find THAT. I can't imagine looking for the extra doors lol. Goodluck in your search Sir, and if you find and that just have the regular clubcab without the doors, lemme know
