Noise comparison - Scotty w/ cowl hole or AFE w/ cowl hole?

Just curious if the noise was comparable between the Scotty with the cowl hole and the AFE with the same cowl hole? Thanks.

Not my experience... But I have read that the AFE is quiter, even with the hole. This is from people that replaced the Scotty with AFE.

With my hy35, the scotty 2 with the hole wasn't loud at all unless you started spitting out 20+ psi. Cruising around town you barely noticed it. It's a different story with my KSB-1 though. It's a LOT louder around town. Almost to the point of annoyance. I'm thinking about getting a TAG to help quiet it down a bit.

I never had an AFE...but had a K&N FIPK (same size and type filter element).

With the Scotty II I get Turbo whine
With the K&N I got "Air Rush"...sucking noise.

Personal preference, I guess, but I prefer the turbo whine.....and you can recover the hole for the Scotty II, especially in the colder months, and still get good performance - a lot better than I expected. With the hole covered...my turbo wine is cut in half!

I have the AFE and the Scotty II and believe it or not, the AFE (with NO cowl hole cut) is noticably louder than my Scotty II WITH the cowl hole cut. And when I say the AFE is loud, I mean loud! The Scotty II has a much more soothing "big rig" turbo whistle sound and IMO, would be more appropriate for long distance highway driving. My wife likes the sound of the Scotty II but has casually mentioned "the turbo is a little loud, isn't it?" with the AFE.

I like the sound of my AFE much better than the Scotty I had. Both with cowl hole.
