Talking New SB Con OFE is in!

I just picked-up the ole truck and WOW! Talk about night and day difference. I'm not sure if the factory clutch was just a piece of junk or this SB is the BOMB! But here is what I've noticed in the short drive back to work. The factory clutch was reel rough and jolting, released at the top, felt alot firmer. The OFE is real smooth, it feels alot softer, easy shifting, it releases alot lower to the floor. This thing is like driving a car. I have felt new power that I hadn't felt before. It's like falling in love all over again (are these feelings normal?).

I paid $592.00 to have it installed @ the dealer with a new output shaft seal. Money well spent vs breaking my back. Were are at Rick?

I am at Edwards AFB, up here in the Antelope Valley. If it was only $600 to have the new clutch AND have it installed, I would have done that. Where did you have this done? I should have went your route. Got one quote, for stock clutch and work was over $1200.....WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA.

BTW, seen your picture. I was in the Navy for 14.5 years as a HM. I always wanted to go the SEABEE route, but never was in the cards.

I had the same feelings when my SB went in. But I had mine installed for FREE. I guess that is the benifit of my old mam owning his own shop.

I got the OFE kit for $700.00, labor and seal was $600.00. The dealer that put mine in said the stock kit was $1100.00. I'm suppose to let the SM know how the clutch works out so they can offer it as an alternative to the stock one. He there always getting asked for something heavier.

I was pretty lucky to be a seabee. I was actually hand selected out of bootcamp for the program. Back in 93 there only 9000 of us.

Just put in new clutch

Well, just put in the new clutch that arrived yesterday. I learned a whole bunch of new words doing it (it is amazing how the back of my head can find every sharp piece of metal underneeth my pickup ).

Couple of questions for you guys. My clutch feels softer to push in now, do I need to do something else, or is it just a "breaking in" phase? Second, SBC says to wait about 200 miles before it is broken in. How long before I can pull my trailer with it?

I went through Boot camp in 1987, at that time I didn't know anything about CBs, otherwise, it might have changed a few things. However, still happy to have been an HM!

Thanks all,
Rick

Mine feels the same. Peter (from SB) told me it was ok to tow with it now. I'm going to put some miles on it 1st before I start dragging anything around. I'm going to take a road trip this next weekend just to put some miles on it and "break it in."

It must have been a OFE weekend for everybody! I took it on step further though. I yanked the auto out of my newest '01.5 QC and pulled a 6 speed out of another truck. I started Friday around 10AM and was all finished up Sat. at 6:30PM. I really like the OFE so far, nice pedal pressure and smooth engagement.
