New Quadzilla High HP Box For 2nd Gen's??
The Race box definately has a set of gauges. Now the set that comes standard is a full compliment but, it is in the Control Pod or Recon style setup. You will read 1 parameter at a time. If you want the fancy display you need to get the Commander. The Commander for the Race box is considerably cheaper than the standard Commander as well but, it is not stand alone.
I hate to tell you not to get gauges in the event you do not like the gauges we provide but, it definately has good gauges built in.

I understand that the Commander serves as the guages, but from perusing your web site it appears that the only sensor that is included is for EGT, is that correct? If so, do you have a reliable, economical source for the ones that would be needed for the tranny, fuel pressure and everything else?
my trucks got pyro ,trans temp ,and boost. fuel press, oil press and coolant. id like to try your setup if it will do away with the torq management inthe 02 model. race r whatever im game...truck pull the 21st of this month to try it if you would like to do it by then! thanks

quad...i already have the commander....set as the stand alone..and am anxiously awaiting the High HP box....i understand through sifting through this thread that the commander comming with the box will provide new items not offered with the current commander....like poss..0-60 and 1/4 mi times...and most importantly to me a TURBO TIMER.....will my current commander be able to incorp..these features by way of a downloadable program via the USB...i would hate to think that i just in the last month spent 400 dollars only to find out if i want to take FULL advantage of the new box i need to spend 800+/- to get a box and revised commander.....
can you shed some light on that for me????

Now, if you get the fuel pressure kit it uses another sending unit along with a tapped banjo bolt and washers to install it.
The Commander that you see now has nothing in common with the Commander coming for the Race box. The current Commander will work with the Race box but, not to the extent that the newer Commander will.
This new Commander is purpose built for this box and only this box. It does not work without this box. It has a whole slew of different and additional parameters.
Sort of confusing now but, it won't be when we get all the info out where you can actually see it.

I really wished I could look you in the face and tell you that I would have something ready but, in reality even if I do have beta stuff out by then it would not be competition ready.
The one thing I have learned so far is that once you get past a stock or mostly stock truck, these things really respond to things really differently. To get it right will take some time and a ton of work to accommodate the masses. We will never be able to make the perfect parts for every single setup but, I think we have some ways to make it perfect for the majority.
I am amazed that 1 degree of timing advance on one truck can actually make the cylinder pressures get to the point where it blows tons of oil out of the overflow and on the next truck you can advance it another 3 degrees with no harm done. Both trucks within 25hp of each other.

We really try hard to be as backwards compatible as we can be and to not hide anything from current customers and potential customers but, sometime things develop to the point where not everything will work together.
We knew this box was coming for a while and this is why we never offered a "race" box for the vp44 trucks.
So long story short, it will work, a lot of the features will work but, it probably won't do what you might want it to do.

Without the Race box this version of the Commander is only good for a paper weight. This is the only feasible way to offer all the features that we want on this product.

secondly....how will the interface be done, if i see things correctly this new box has more than 3 power levels...you are currently working of fixing some bugs for levels beyond 2...i read where your tester had or has timing issuse on levels beyond that 6 and 7 i believe....so the question is....my commander "on the fly" and otherwise, will only allow a LEVEL 3 adjustment...
hopefully a downloadable program will become avaiable to allow levels 4 and beyond for us....

I'd also like to know about the effects on 2001-2002 trucks with autos. Right now I'm running the Smarty/TST stack for the low end performance while towing but more importantly for the fact that the Smarty removes the torque guard that the 01-02 had in the ecm. I understand your box isnt a reprogrammer but was wondering if because your on the can-bus you worked something into the setup that would allow your box to bypass the torque guard programming. Is it something you guys took into consideration or do I need to stay with my Smarty.

right i understand that...but what about some of the other items that are not necessarily "Purpose" built for this new box....ie a Turbo Timer...i do remember a few months back...before i purchased the commander there was a therad which someone debated an edge attitude and the commander and a high point is the turbo timer....which i do believe you made reference to that being an option at a later date (via downloaded program) so i guess my question is, will that be a reality for us that have already purchased the commander...i see you have mentioned that as being an option for this "NEW" commander system....

We do have a Turbo Timer in the works for the Stand Alone Commander but, it will require additional hardware and a software update. You don't have to send the Commander in, just get the new hardware and download the update when it is available.
There are 2 answers to the power level questions.
1.) In the current form with the current software you will only be able to have the 4 power levels (3 PL's plus Off). There is nothing that can be done and is a hardware limitations.
2.) We can make a software version of our translator module for this box to allow all the power levels of the new box. I am not sure if I am going to do this though as it is a lot of work for not a lot of gain. The translator is what we use to control many other modules.
So it will work but, it won't work like this new one. The new one has 4 wires coming out of it total. It has 1 plug. Other than looks it is totally different.

That is a question I cannot answer 100% at this time.
The idea is that it will. Not in the same way that the Smarty does it but, in the way that it just produces enough power soon enough that it just flat overrides it.
The problem so far is that on some trucks it definitely does this correctly and on other trucks it does not.
So, until we can get into a lot of trucks where we get a more broad feedback I cannot tell you for certain what it will do. This thing is still a little ways off.
The one thing that stinks is that my trucks are manuals. I am going to be looking hard and heavy for an auto truck in our area that has a serious tranny in it for certain things in this test.

We have trucks that fuel past 4K when testing and other that only go to 3600-3800 and unitl I get a more even footing on testing I cannot comment too much on it. The plan is that it will have the ability to raise the rev limiter on these trucks as well.

ok...got it...the turbo timer thing....sounds like it will work either way for us that have the origional commander....if the box can do it alone...then we can use it that way once pluged into the origional commander..right just set it up to time the shut down...plug it in to the commander....or we can purchase the potential hardware and download to use it if we decide not to go with the box...(which isnt an option for me..
)as for the PL's...if i am understanding you correctly...we will only have access to levels 0-4 on the fly...but we will be able to access all levels via the box correct.
