as for the PL's...if i am understanding you correctly...we will only have access to levels 0-4 on the fly...but we will be able to access all levels via the box correct.

That is the basic idea. The only thing about the turbo timer is that if you do not use the special Commander you will be stuck with downloading a file that has the turbo timer pre-set for you at a set time or a set egt. Using the special Commander is the only way you can actually adjust it. I am trying to keep the turbo timer useful to everyone even if they do not want the monitor. We are doing our best to keep all the features we can available to people without force feeding them a second product.

The PL thing is sort of up in the air. We can do several things with that and I am not sure how we do it. Lets say the box has 5 levels and your Commander will only give 4. We can either just set it so that when the Commander goes through levels it skips one of them, or we can have a file to download for use with the old Commander that tells you which level you skip and actually makes the box a true 4 setting box.

Like I said, we try hard to make things backwards compatible and we try hard to keep everyone happy but, it is difficult. Ultimately we are going to upset someone and we really don't mean to, it just happens. It is not because we don't care or we don't want to make it work. I just cannot let current products stop development of new products.

Hopefully most people understand that.

absolutly...quad...i know exactly where you are comming from...i wouldnt expect a company to hold production of a new item to please everyone.

maybe an idea here.....as i see it now...lets say a purchaser on the new box wants the BOX ONLY..no NEW COMMANDER..how will he be able to adjust the PL's.....obviously by means of some switch some how...right.

wont a person in my shoes be able to do the same....just simply NOT plug the new box into the commander...keep that as a stand alone...then said person would have access to ALL power levels

i mean my commander is gonna show me accurate EGT's weather i got that box installed or not, the BOOST is gonna still read true, and so is my FP sending unit....

so as i see it...just get the BOX....and use it just the same as the commander i now have....STAND ALONE....just let it work its magic

Yes that will work.

Also for those that want the de-fueling feature and no Commander or do not want to hook the old Commander up we will have files that you can download for a preset defuel limit. WE probably will not have a wide selection, just something safe for those towing. You download it and it will always automatically de-fuel at a set limit for egt and or boost or whatever we stick in the programming.

So you can sort of have your cake and eat it to.

Not to rub it in but, the new Commander and all the stuff it monitors and allows you to adjust is pretty cool!

bump.....as well...just a question/thought for ya Quad....

i have a stock tranny...although my local diesel guru has taken my truck for a spin and felt the tranny had a VERY POSITIVE hook up...throughout the shifting points...which is good i guess being that i purchased it from a single owner and he told me he has done nothing besides change the tranny fluid twice...50k and 105k and i know i have done NADA to the tranny

my question is...with this new box being as potientially powerful as advertised will it or do you feel it will run right through a stock tranny...

now i know that in the future with the addition of injectors and turbo i will need at a min..VB and TC...but what if i want to run the box and nothing else for awhile.....the two additions mentioned will come later.

thanks

It will run right through a stock auto. No doubt and probably within the first 10 minutes of hammering on it.

Now, if you are conservative you can run the lower levels and be ok.

I am still waiting on my box back from Tyler?? I am beginning to wonder if it has dissappeared?

Also, just a quick update. I suppose I owe you at least that since you have been following this as long as some of you have.

We are ready to beta test. We could actually start beta testing very quickly but, we have 1 hold up and that is the enclosure. Right now the Alpha boxes are in a Deutsch enclosure that is weatherproof so we can have under hood installation. This is fine but, you have to take the box apart to get to the USB which is sort of a pain and realy useless for some of the things we have planned in the future.

We started to use this Deutsch enclosure for beta testing and the first run to speed the process up but.......After talking to a lot of people and discussing this issue we think it is best to just wait for the proper enlcosure. This keeps the first customers and beta testers all 100% happy and then there is nothing left for suprises 1 months after we release it. The beta boxes would still be 100% fully functional but, in a different form factor.

So just to give you something to look at and touch here are a couple of pictures of the actual enclosure we will be using.

In the meantime we will still be doing some Alpha testing with different guys to get a better feel on High RPM and torque management issues. We are also doing a little more dyno work to squeeze a little more out of it. I do believe we are still over fueling in areas and we need to correct that.

So, I wish the update was that we are ready to ship but, I am sad to say we are not. Trust me, if I could I would! I think it will be worth the wait though.

Cool looking box there, Quad. I suggest taking your time. The vp44 crowd has waited a long time for something new with respects to an all out HP box.

The ability to have new files sent to the beta tester will prove to be a big advantage. Will the "average" or non-beta user be able to request a new file with the release of the race box to the public? I wonder if that would prove to be too much in the long run for your team?

Under promise and over deliver is a good motto. I think some of the 2nd Gen Smarty users feel as though they have been forgotten. Some may graduate to a 3rd Gen and take that bitterness with them regarding the Smarty, which of course equals no future Smarty purchase. I've been more than patient with Marco. If you can deliver the goods, Smarty is a expensive paper weight waiting on a CEL. Sorry, didn't want to get off track but it had to be said.

Thanks again Quad for your efforts!

thanks quad....to tell the truth i was kinda expecting that.

i guess that means...GO WITH IT ANYWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!

maybe save the injector money and turbo money...go with a tranny.....but i just cant see investing money in a tranny when the one i got is PERFECTLY fine.

if you can...refresh me on the proposed HP/TQ numbers again with this box.

you could always just do a TC and VB and some other minor things and see how long it will last.

yea...its just that last part you mention..."and see how long it lasts"

i am a beliver in do it right the first time....why spend the money on something just to see how long it lasts....whats a decient VB running..probally 600 and a good TC easily a 1000...install my time well free but hey i can only warrenty my own screw ups....lol so to pay to have it installed and i am looking at half of the price of a of a MONSTER tranny...

i hear you and what you probally were refering to is the 500 hp rule that we all hear about....."as long as 500 hp is the number then a good VB and TC is all you need"

anyways...ramble, ramble...it is a thougth and i am sure that is the route i will go just to save money...plus truthfully 500 is the number i want NO MORE no LESS....i figure with 500 i just might be able to be my own gasser..but probally not....

most good TC have a lifetime warranty. oh a vb is 399 to 500 IIRC

there is a big difference between $1600 and $3500-5000.

if you dont drive like a 16yr old or a manic you ll probably be fine.

just a thought, i think its all how you drive to a certain extent.

Ok mods. Please kill this one too. It has run out of good and when we get to beta testing we can start a real one. Thanks for the interest guys, we are working hard to get it out.

I am fed up with some of the PM's I am getting from this thread. I have never in my life met so many rude, cocky people as I have when this Race box stuff started.

Don't get me wrong most of you guys are great. Questions are no problems and I will answer them all day. I am just not going to get harassed on a product that is not even a product yet!!!!!!

See ya in a few weeks!
