It can be cut in there on your turbo, a decent size lathe could do it easily. It's a slot about 5 mm wide starting at the front edge of the impeller and going back towards the center section of the turbo.

edit - The MWE slot is the only difference between the compressor sections of an H1C and a WH1C.

Yes it would cure the flutter.

The WH1C cured the flutter for me, and yes, the turbo sounds like a 2nd gen with no silencer ring. I don't have a pic but I'll see what I can do.

 

What are we talking about cutting? My 1st gen needs some more turbo noise badly.

the slot that makes thing work better. evens out the pressure around the compressor wheel and it's housing, from what i've read. you've already got it though. right behind your silencer ring.

 

oh wait, you said your first gen. sorry, i've been staring at this thing for waaaaaaay to long today.

 

Want more turbo sound???? In addition to adding the MWE slot, maybe you could add a few of these to your exhuast.

Glad to hear it worked out for you, I never did get a chance to tear into mine and take a pic for you. Did you find a pic or just go off my recollection from when I had mine apart in the spring?

 

got some pics off TDR. got it the general area. after taking the 40 apart, i found that it wasn't quite right though. oh well, it works. thanks for the words of encouragement though dave, they helped.
