Just get a piece of 3" pipe with a flare on each end that a few inches longer then the chunk of crap you cut out slip it onto both pieces of pipe and clamp it on.

Your local muffler shop should be able to do the job for $50.

Not that simple , I believe it has an offset in the pipe and no one around here has a 3 inch bender and one end is bigger than 3 inch isn't it ? I think 3.5 inches ???

Down pipe diameter to resonator is 3". Section between resonator to muffler is 4". Muffler out to tailpipe is 3". Just cut out the resonator and muffler and fill the gap with a 3" section. Easy peasy.

Oh ok , I think the pipe I was looking at on line left the resonator in place , I guess I'll just cut the whole works out .

You "can" leave the resonator in place but yes, that means having to find a reducer in order to go from the larger resonator outlet diameter down to the 3" tailpipe diameter. Your muffler shop may have that reducer too.

I bring this up because there is an advantage to leaving the resonator in place. All the restriction is in the muffler but given the open flow-through design of the resonator, it doesn't harm anything to leave it in place other than its not going to allow your exhaust be the loudest. You may appreciate leaving the resonator in place too as it will reduce the typical straight pipe drone noise down to very little.

Remember what I said about the exhaust pipe acting like a guitar string..... I know the picture is podunk redneck looking but this is what I did to my old straight piped stock 3" exhaust just to see if adding metal would do anything to reduce the drone. Results are that it considerably reduced the drone on my truck. Still loud out the pipe but absolutely more tolerable drone than it was without. And also, adding more metal and/or in different locations or longer lengths would help and change the note of the reverberation.

That is known as a tuned mass damper. Basically, if you change the mass of an object, you change its resonant frequency. By adding the fence post, it adds more mass, and shifts the frequency range at which it will resonate.

It's fairly easy to accomplish too, if you have a droning problem as pictured above. Just add weights to the pipe until it stops. Angle iron would work too.
