Midwest triple disk converter

Has anyone heard of Midwest. He sells/makes a triple disk converter for about a grand, with 2 year warranty.

Never heard anyone talk about this company, so I thought I would ask.

I've not heard of them myself or heard of them on our site. Not to say that is a bad thing either, Obviuosly their has been a lot of positive feedback from the companies on our vendor links such as: ATS,DTT,Suncoast etc... You may want to have a look at them, prices are similar and a lot of members are positive they are good b/c they have used them and can attest to them being solid converters as well as reputable companies to deal with.

I would be a little leery of something that cheap ($495.00). If the big guys could make them that cheep then the competition would force them to do so. The highest HP TQ I see for our trucks is 300 HP. That is very easy to exceed with our trucks. I would do a little shopping first. If you are still interested I would go back with what I learned and ask a lot of questions. Here are a few places to do some reading first.

What’s he doing that would allow him to make a TQ so much cheaper then the other guys?
What material is he using? What are the other guys using? I will bet somewhere you will find a short cut.
The big question is where do you want to be with your horsepower and torque? A set of mild injectors with what you have now will put you over the 300 hp limit of his TQ or very close to it.

Bill, He doesn't have the triple disk listed on his web-site. I called him direct as he makes the converter for another shop. I've heard of all the others you've listed, was just checking into other options. Another one I've heard about is www.heathdiesel.com he has a single disk converter rated for 430hp. I'm not sure I need a triple disk, so I'm looking at all converters before making my choice.

I'd be a bit cautious about TC's - because if the TC is going out slipping the lockup clutch(es) it will let the contaminated oil go through the transmission (rear bearings) before it goes into the pan and then the filter. A bad TC, or leaks that make you lose pressure on he lockup circuit will damage a lot more than only the TC- and if you have to buy a completely new tranny some 100$ won't even make a dent in the budget. If you go the TC/VB only route and you already have a problem chances are good that you are going to have to do all the work again very soon.
I did buy all the stuff for a complete rebuild from DTT and must say that I am really happy to have done so- during disassembly of my stock transmission I could see points where it had leaked and what had slipped. If I had just added a better TC and a VB I would have been into deep trouble since the old leakages and bad clutches wouldn't have stood the higher pressures from the new VB nor the higher torque on the input from the better TC.
(These are personal impressions and don't judge on any vendors qualities. Say NO to tranny wars)

4 1/2 years later, I'm going to be the first person to actually comment on a midwest triple disk converter

I just build my trans with a PATC stage 3 kit that came with the midwest triple disk converter and also installed a ATS flexplate and input shaft.

All I have to say is this converter is very tight. I'm running it with 220hp inj, hrvp and an hx-40 and this thing really lugs the motor. If you have any questions regarding stall speed or anything, send a PM.
