Mine was not a whole lot louder then stock. Sounded nice from outside the truck. But couldn't really tell inside.

So, I went with 4" straight pipe. Problem solved

Roadstar,

GlennRMK is right for some folks it's too quiet and they get a muffler delete to noisy it up some. Give us a call if you want we have all the MBRP available here and can answer all your questions etc.

I have MBRP systems on both of my CTD's and find them to be a fair bit louder than stock outside of the truck but not much louder inside......I do a lot of highway driving and the straight pipe drone drove me nuts....The MBRP muffler cuts down on the drone and raspiness but maintains a nice deep tone that barks when you jump on it!

Love my MBRP 4". Good quality and just enough louder (with muffler) to announce your truck is different....without offending the neighbors. Unless, of course, your intention is to turn heads a 100 yds away.
It gets a little more raspy...as time passes.....or as you add HP.

Mark,
I have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer. About a week or so back I posted about a saleman telling a prospective customer that stainless steel exhaust would reduce EGTs about 100-150 beyond what an aluminized system would. In other words, this guy was saying aluminized systems would reduce EGTs about 100-150 and stainless steel systems would further reduce EGTs another 100-150. Everyone that replied agreed that this was just hype that this salesman (if you can call him that) was using to try to get this customer (not me ) to buy stainless instead of aluminized. What's your take on this claim.

My second question is this. I'm eventually going to replace my stock exhaust with a 4" system. I really don't want a louder system so much as a more free flowing system to help reduce/slow down the rise in EGTs. This prompted me to investigate what mufflers can achieve these results and I got feedback from several people that the Nelson 86131M would do just that. Have you ever had an opportunity to compare this muffler to the one that comes with MBRP systems for loudness (inside and outside) as well as flow rate? If not, could you guess at how they would compare? I've heard the MBRP sound clip and from that it sounds like it has a nice, relatively deep, but not too loud sound quality. I've just never had the opportunity to hear any MBRP systems yet (at least not that I am aware of.)

Thanks,
Steve

Rockyhud,

The answer to your 1st question after a good hearty Santa Clause laugh is whooie!! There is a small and I MEAN small performance difference between say aluminized and 304 stainless. The aluminized will dissapate the heat thru the steel, while 304 will tend to contain it and keep it in the pipe, most folks would think letting it dissapate thru the steel would be good for EGT's, but it actually cuts down on the velocity of the exhaust gasses. The higher the velocity due to heat the faster the gasses move the lower the EGT gets faster.

But were talking about NASA type differences here nothing we can use in a 5.9 anyway!

Questions two is one I can't really answer, you can read the posts from owners that give you the sound levels in this thread. The muffler you mentioned isn't anything we have used, but from what you and others have said it sounds like it will be approx the same volume level as our MBRP mufflers. Call us if you have any questions etc.

Roadstar,
I bought a system from RPM Outlet. The system that I got is alot louder then my stock one was. (The nice thing about this system it is 14 gauge and not 16-18 like the other systems are). As a matter of fact I have a friend that has a 4"single outlet that is straight piped and I would say my duels with the muffler (If you can call it that) is just as loud as his. I see your in Long Island I get down to Pelhem quite a bit . If you want to see / hear my truck pm me and I'll let ya know when I'll be down there next week. After next week I'm going to Florida to install a Concrete Block plant and I won't be back for a couple of weeks.
