Lost 2nd gear

I have a 2001 5.9 turbo.Driving down the road the next time I took off I lost 2nd.No slipping before.My guess is a band broke.Any Ideas

Something in the planetary hold failed. Probably a band as you suspect.

Drop the pan and take a look. It may have simply broke/bent the band strut.

well my transmission is in the shop and I too lost lost 2nd gear. Band was completley gone.

No. the pump must come out first.

Get it fixed, pronto. Unless link is broke, it keeps wearing the drum it runs against. More expense.

What he said. At the least, drop the pan and look for pieces of friction material/check the band/strut/etc. When was the last time you adjusted the front band?

I adjusted the band about 2000 miles ago.When I pulled the pan and valvebody.I found the strut broke and the material off the band.I did get a new band in there without pulling trans.Im sure it wont last long I hope until winter.For the 23dollar band its worth a try.
