Loping Cummins?
Loping Cummins?
I was sitting at a light yest. and I heard the Cummins next to me loping away like it had a nice sounding cam in it. I've heard that a cam won't make our trucks lope at idle or anything. How did he do it? Anyway I could make mine do it short of playing with the throttle at the light. I've been known to tap the throttle and make it sound that way.

Re:Loping Cummins?
SuperMentals use to lope at idle, not so sure they do now though. ???

Did he have gauges? If so then it was more then likly injectors, it not then who knows.

Re:Loping Cummins?
There are some companys that will special gruind cams, I have seen them in larger detroit diesels , not usually on the street I have spoken with a freind of mine that seen some one up hear with that same setup in 12v dodge truck ??????????? don't know what sort of rpm he's hitting
Re:Loping Cummins?
was it a 12V or a 24V? You can get a *romp-romp-romp-romp* kind of lope out of a 12V with some good pump work... my dad's truck's idle does it very well when it's cold
. My supermentals have a pretty good lope at idle, but it's gotten a lot better since I added the DD box on top of the PM3 :'(. I'd guess an ever bigger injector would do it even more.

Re:Loping Cummins?
Hey dennis... that's was before I had the box piggybacked. I really liked the way the truck idled without it, but it does run better with it. That extra timing calmed down the idle quite a bit, but it still chops pretty good, and sometimes it does it more than others. The adjustment was with the remote on the PM3 ;D.

Also, BigBlue, larger fuel lines from the pump to the injectors will give a very lopey idle. It's more noticeable on the 12Vs because their injection pressure isn't as high, but both engines will rock the truck at idle with bigger lines.
Re:Loping Cummins?
That's what I thought 98. It was a 24 valve. My buddys Stang lopes very nicely (has trouble idling) and I love that sound. Buddy's Camaro does the same. I guess I'll have to wait for the tranny before mine will lope. :'(
