a little BHAF followed me home.

Finally got my new air filter installed. The K&N that was in the stock box was filthy, I didn't realize it was so bad on the underside. The engine seems to breath alot better and egts dropped about 50 all around with the BHAF. Turbo whistle is louder by a good bit, but not as loud as I hoped. I guess it's just always loud so any louder would be like a jet fighter taking off from every stoplight, lol. Still need to fab up a heatshield, but it seems like a good deal for $50 shipped, and I wouldn't have known about it without this site so thanks again..

made the heat shield today to, im gonna paint it red and I got some diamond plate that im gonna use as a trime piece just for a added effect. I had to weld the two halves together cus I didnt have a single big enough piece...

Make sure you put something over the studs for the air box or it will rub a hole in the filter. Also get something to protect the AC lines that are there. Just speaking from experience cause i am on my second one in less then two months. I used a piece of rubber heater core hose left over from a tractor to go around the AC line and some old rubber bushings i found for the airbox studs. A heat shield would be better but i havent had the time to make one yet. If you do be sure to post pics.

yea i think there all the same Duralite filter... i got the fleetfilter or napa #2790, psd tuner u can check the faq section if u want the complete list of part numbers for all the filters that work.

I used a piece of garden hose over the ac line. i'm gonna monitor that to make sure it doesn't melt, lol, but i think it'll do fine. I'm gonna fab up the shield tomorrow out of some sheet metal I have, not even sure what gauge it is but it'll do. I tried printing out the BHAF template but it didn't print to scale for some reason so i'm just gonna make it by the pics i've seen and do what works. It gives me a reason to weld, which I love to do.

thanks BBA, this site hooked me right away, lol.

I pulled the plastic nuts out of the stock box and pushed them over the studs to protect the filter. No holes in the filter in over 10,000 miles. I think I'll go check my air conditioning lines now.

Wow Box5, 1,000 posts... That's 999 more than me!

The studs are held in by rubber and are easy to remove.

made the heat shield today. I edited the top post with some pics of it. Thanks again to DPG for that template, it made work alot easier just having to cut something out instead of trial fit and all that.

well, I just scrapped that heat shield, lol. I had a feeling it was to thin of gauge but went ahead anyway, and it just bounces and flops around so u either need to use some 1/8" steel or add extra supports. The template needs alittle adjusting to fit right, but it's a good starting point for sure. My stock airbox hold downs don't get tight enough to hold the heat shield firmly so I need to get something that will. Oh well, I guess theres always some trial and error..

... just did the BHAF a couple days ago with the wix filter and a 4" exhaust, nice little upgrade! I used 3/16" aluminum only cause i had some lying around the shop.
Cheers!

I made mine out of a piece of 1/8" stainless and had the same problem with it flopping around so where the two studs come through the base I put a slight bend in it along there it it stopped the Vibration. With the filter in place you can't tell any different and it also gave it a bit more clearance between the turbo and the heat shield ,also holds the filter a bit better.
