Leaking coolant..
Leaking coolant..
I have coolant leaking from the back of the engine block.. I noticed it when i finally was parked on concrete any my friends house.. Its running down off the block where the transmission and engine come together.. Where might this coolant be coming from.. I know its not a blown head gasket because there is no oil in my coolant.. any ideas ?
Check for a crack in the block just below the exhaust manifold and a 53 cast into the front drivers side of the block just under the injection pump.
This sounds like a 53 block cracking problem.
If it is, do a search on Lok-n-Stitch
There is a really great link on here somewhere with tons on info. SOmeone will post it for you.
Good luck.... I am pressing mine.

Sounds like the #53 Cummins boat anchor to me too. I have the same problem in my Freightliner. As for lock and stich the large truck mechanics I have dicussed this with said don't bother it will not last this goes for the idea of welding with ni rod also.
well, i checked for the 53 stamp and i don't have it.. So i must not have a 53 block... Also i looked for a crack below the manifold and couldnt see any.. or any sign of coolant leaking from there.. but i got underneath the truck and it seems to be coming from the back of the block.. so i think it might just be that plug thing..
Also look close at the left rear almost at the back of the block. There is a head gasket problem that affects the right front and the left rear. It will leak from the jacket to the outside with no internal leakage.
On the back of the block below the head, you have a freeze plug that covers the water port that is used for the air compressor on the commercial engines. If this is leaking you can make a plate to cover it with gasket material same as the water port casting covers it on the commercial engine. If that is leaking, go to cummins and look at some engines that are out to see how it bolts up. You can get the gasket from cummins and either make a plate to cover it or get one from the junk yard, two bolts and you are fixed.
