KSB-1 questions

First off I dont want the facts from their website...those here who have tried it, what is a KSb-1 (kwik-spool) capable of while still keeping EGTs in check?

with more air i should be around 425-450 hp roughly, is this too much for it? my plan is to pick up this KSB-1 a friend has, run it for a while to keep EGT's down at my current power level, then another year or so of saving, i plan on stepping up to Mach 4's or larger, and a Smarty type tuner with a fueling box. when i make this jump to more fuel, and upgrade the turbo, will i be able to send in a KSB-1 and pay to have it upgraded to something like a full b-1 etc. or will i need to purchase a new turbo and then sell the KSB-1.

id really like to go with a PS62 or 64, but the KSB-1 i can get for half the price, but i dont wanna have to buy 2 turbos if i can just upgrade one

i have a B1-2 with my mach 3s. Knowing what i know now, I would have gone to a full B1 to begin with. i don't even notice any lag with this turbo, maybe because i've been driving it for a couple years. now i hear the Mach 4s are a newer design injector and run cooler, less smoke and more power... i don't remember who it was, but i talked to a member that had his b1-2 upgraded to a full b1 with ceramic coating for about 500 bones.

Daily driving... the KSB-1 will support 400 well.
Above that the EGT's will get toasty. With an Edge Comp and DD3 you will be able to peg you EGT needle at WOT ..... but it will take longer to get there than your present set up.
You will probably be able to pull 50+/- psi boost, due to no wastegate. Won't hurt the turbo, but is not efficient.

It's a great turbo but not enough for your set up if playing hard. I made mine work well up to 480 hp with an external WG. Max efficiency range for the KSB-1 is 45 psi boost.
You can upgrade a KSB-1 to a full B-1 by just changing the turbine housings.
The good news is the KSB-1 will spool as well as an HX-35/14, and very close to same as an HX-35/12!

i should just wait and get a turbo to handle it once instead of paying twice. my banks modified (banks exhaust housing and elbow to DP) hx35 now runs at 42 psi WOT and will almost completely clear my smoke with comp on 5x5 in the cold weather, in the warm weather however the turbo just cant handle the fuel. i like to play alot and also race on the track a few times a year. ill just save my money for the Phat shaft and pay once. i am spoiled tho, my little 35 has NO lag and im gonna miss that with the larger charger

how does your EGT react at 42psi? is your wastegate adjustable? lots of testing shows that the hx35 makes more heat and LESS power beyond ~35psi. would be interesting to see the difference in heat and power between 35 and 42.

EGT's on a long 42psi WOT pull will hit 1500, its a banks wastegate tho with banks 14cm housing and i thought the banks unit was designed to wastegate at 37...but it consistently makes 42 and i have no way to force it open without getting a stock wastegate with a manual controller on it.

always a sore point for me. Is the wastegate number given as the max pressure allowed, or is it the opening pressure? i don't think there is a common answer to this, and different set ups will give different results! it all comes down to fine tuning in the end.

What??????
Theres no way that 35/12 is supporting those 3s and a comp on 5x5
With 2s my pyro peged faster than the tach and at 42psi your gonna find the trouble your asking for(dont ask how I know ) With a 35/14-3B twins combo I couldnt compleatly clear the fuel from the comp and the 2s?
Becarefull cause playing that far out of bounds is expensive I would pick up the KSB-1 and use it untill you upgrade further, you will also notice a power increase with it actually supporting the fuel your using. JMO

Edit: sorry just re-read the post and you have a 35/14 not 12 I still think your pushing the 35 way past a safe limit.

yesterday it was 38 degrees and going down the highway with the dd3's and comp on 5x5 in 6th gear i could get on it, hit 40-42 psi and the smoke was almost gone, just a slight gray haze, it starts out black as can be tho then clears up at full boost. when it does the truck pulls hard so its make some power, even tho my egts are around 1400 for a short pull and will hit 1500 if i stay in it to 100mph or faster but you cant do that much on the street

another interesting thing i ran into at the dyno was the air filter restriction. i know the bhaf is not the best flowing unit, but the filtering (and price) is hard to beat. i gained almost 10hp removing the air filter and intake tube. egt climbed a bit slower in my opinion, but that was just SOP, not scientific by any means!
