Re:K&N vs. Scotty 2
I think the pricing of the K&N is $230.00.....the Scotty is $199.00 and flows more air

Check out Wildcat Diesel

http://www.wildcatdiesel.com/
Re:K&N vs. Scotty 2
The Scotty pulls it's air from out side the engine compartment, the K&N doesn't. The filter used on the Scotty is much bigger. ANd it cost less.

The Scotty 2 has given me the best reduction in EGTs to date for the Cost. It's reduction is on par with what the Piers Super HX-40 gave.

Go for the CooOOoooOOOooooOOOOooOOoooOOOooL AIR!!!!!!
Re:K&N vs. Scotty 2
From a stock truck using the Scotty I, then stepping up to a 'Mildly Modified' truck with the Scotty II...this system works. Everyone knows when you add fuel you add EGT's if you dont have the air to go with it. When I added the #11 plate I also added the Scotty II system. I was expecting an increase in EGT's with the plate but a funny thing happened..the EGT's actually went down 50-75*. When pulling a 6% grade with 10k hung on the back you can hear the system working..
And that 75* or more reduction in EGT's..could mean whether I get to out run that DORF to the top
This system has went past CoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOl...to ICE

Rick

This is as much as we could get.
I asked several times what people are getting for EGT reduction when I see that they have a Volant on their truck in their sig.
Not many reply.

Re:K&N vs. Scotty 2
somewhere on the net I saw that any warranty on the cummins engine is voided if a highflow aftermarket airfilter like the K&N is used on the engine, it may have been the cummins websight FAQ. I don't know if this is because of less filtration of the intake air or because of the increased airflow and affect that would have on the engine. My dog is old so I don't have to worry about warranty, but during hunting season ect.. I travel a lot of gravel roads and don't want to suck any dirty air. It seems to me if you ran multiple OE air filters that would allow more air, or will this not come close to flowing as freely as a K&N or Scotty. Maybe, I'll get a Scotty and just switch to an OE when in dusty off road conditions. With or without the highflow filter my old dodge is the favorite truck I've ever owned.
Re:K&N vs. Scotty 2
I'd like to see where it says they will VOID the warranty if it is used.
I will also add that if a person is going to use a K&N panel replacement...they run the highest risk of dusting an engine simply because of poor fitment and the factory air box is not perfect. Both issues play a role in the seepage of dust.
Long before I released the Scotty I tested my oil many times.
Silicon levels where highest on my 96 Ram that had a defective air box and never had an aftermarket filter in it.

The seal on the scotty is superior to the factory box. I did this for my own piece of mind. We now have several years of people using the Scotty and lots of them in very fine dust...I have not been made aware of them having a high silicon level. Let alone a 'dusted' engine.

Also, and this is not to ruffle any feathers; I would put that its only recommended to use the approved filter of the manufacturer if I was that manufacturer. I sure would not suggest a competitors product. Why push away potential sales? The credibility of their name allows them to put a scare in their wording.

I will review the Cummins site again and see where it says that the use of a K&N or similar voids the warranty.
I find that hard to beleive. Stranger things have happened though.

I also have a question for folks...if a person barks their turbo, do they run a chance of forcing combusted air backwards? Would that have some soot on it and gather in the intercooler?
Is this possible?

In regards to my IAT sensor...I ordered one up to replace my old one after about 40,000 miles and I expected to see it all covered in grime. Its was and is clean and dry. The IAT is a good indicator of how well the system is working too.

If you find that document or web page, please post it here.
