Just a Tease...
Re:Just a Tease...
Jim, thats not to spendy for a water injection system.
Water system is $400.00, $300.00 was for the air temp guage with 2 probes and a recall box.
No charger change here, I finally found the end of my stock Direct clutch hub so James went back through the tranny and put all the lastest updates in as I was 18 Months behind.....that's were all the money went.

Jim,
The guys that are "up there" in the horsepower game such as yourself, and like Horace MIGHT be
, the $400-300 for is just a little bit for a BIG return. I know at one point you estimated about 50hp, would you say 75 now?

O-rings, Studs, and Fire rings
This week I took a trip to Mark Kendricks shop in Fort Worth to o-ring my head and block to install Hailsley Machine's Fire rings and Studs. I also had my head ported while it was off the truck. The Haisley Fire ring setup was very inpressive... It uses the stock headgasket with the fire ring watter jetted out and the huge fire rings to seal compression. Mark was nice enough to spend 2 nights and 1 full day wrenching on my truck to get me out by Friday night. It was nice to meet him and Joe and see his shop firsthand. So far I have no leaks or blowby so it looks like everything is sealed up nicely. Here are some pics.

Re:Just a Tease...
Horace,
What are the advantages to the Fire-ring setup that Haisley is using compaired to the normal o-ring setup? Also, which studs did you get from him?
So now that you have the bases covered on blowing a HG, what kind of boost are you making?
Also, while you were in DFW, did you dyno?
What did Mark think about the turbo setup compaired to the ones he is doing?
Your holding out on us man! :P ;D

Horace has a very clean and great running truck!!!
The haisley setup puts a mild steel ring that is crushed under 125# of headstud torque in matching head and block grooves. the grooves reinforce the firering to keep yielding under pressure to an absolute minimum. You end up with a rubust and durable (iron vs copper) seal that is gapless(unlike wire o-rings).
the system seems to work very well, it held 60psi as soon as the water got up to operating temp.
All in all it went very well. There was a bit of pain because it was the first time we've done the studs and firerings and it was a brand new tool.
Mark thought Horace did an excellent job 8) of making his twins. Mine are a good bit
faster spooling. Let horace tell you his opinion.
His HX40-HT4B is very well matched and seem to make good power. The real problem he has is that when the turbos are spooled the motor is spun to the max. :- It takes a lot of road to test them out properly. I'm betting when he makes the wastegate adjustments he wants that it will wake up little more of the bottom end.
I would love to bolt them on a 5k rpm 12V and see what I could break 8)

Re:Just a Tease...
Marks B1 / B1 Big Brother combo was quite a quick spooling setup for that size chargers. The B1 Big brother is comparable in size to the 4B and it is definantly not smaller. Of course he has quite a bit more fuel coming out of that P-Pump and honed 370's
. So it is not like comparing apples to apples. I did find a stiffer spring for my turbo-master today and I will install it tomorow and see if I can keep the wastegate closed longer. It should help tremendously.
The fire ring setup is different than most o-ringed setups today because it uses the mild steel fire rings to seal compression and still uses the stock headgasket to seal oil and water passages. The rings are no small wire o-rings... they are 105thou monsters. The limits to this system are not bound by how much boost the fire rings can take, but by how much boost the studs can take before streaching 16thou. It is much more durable than copper.

Re:Just a Tease...
Hey fellas, realize that Horace's turbos are built for a different purpose and on a different budget.
He built an economical, high end hp set of twins. I normally build hx35-ht3b econo street-strip twins. My B1-Big Brother is the best of both worlds but the turbos alone are over $3K. More than a normal kit just for the turbos.
If I were building HP on a budget the HX40/HT4B would be near the top of the list. Especially afer seeing them in action. Horace has a first rate setup. it controlls boost well (his STOCK HG wasn't blown!!!!!!!) and makes a lot of HP and has half the fabrication of my kit because he used an internal WG. He also reports that drive pressures are excellent on his twins.
Later,
Mark
