Just Starting Out

Hi Everyone
I own a 96 Ram 3500 w/ a #6 BD plate. I also have a K&N in the stock box w/8 1" holes drilled in it and the plastic extension fo the fender removed. I am looking to work my way up to about 500 hp. I only want to have to buy things one time. What are some good steps to take to get to my goal. Any help would be appreciated. New to diesel power.

Re:Just Starting Out

It's probably on every other thread started by a noobie (mine included) but if you don't have gauges, don't do anything until you get them!!! You can do a search on the myriad threads about which gauges are best and what the best way to mount them is. After that, hook up with some folks on this site via PM about what they did to get 500 HP and see what their current config is.
Hope this helps.

Re:Just Starting Out

As soon as the gauges go in, start looking for another tranny. At 500 ponies the stocker will not even be close to able to handle that. Then go with injectors, then a box, and then a bigger turbo. That should put you at or about 500 horse.

Tiny

Re:Just Starting Out

Yeah, that one had me confused, too. No fueling boxes on the '96 12V engine, Taz. It's all mechanical. Such a beautiful thing!

Re:Just Starting Out

I've heard the older motors are better than the 24v. I was thinking of the Scotty II filter and wondered what the opinion was on these?? Gauges are supposed to be in the mail. I went with the Autometer cause I have had very good luck with those before. Thanks for all the other info it is very helpful to hear from a few people who have been there before and know what they are doing.
