Did the mod myself, but did not take any pics. A couple of years ago there was a long thread on this and seems to me that someone posted pictures of the steps. Pics are not really necessary as it is so simple.

Seems to me that we are talking about two different tone ring mods.
Some of you newbies may not know that there are two tone ring mods, one is free and the other costs. Both appear to work about the same.
yea i think i saw that thread but the pics were no longer avaliable or i couldnt see them on my computer i know it sounds pretty easy to do but i just like to see pictures im sure some of you know how it is.
just pull off your intake to the turbo. you'll see a tapered ring just inside, held in by a small retainer ring. looks like a snap ring without the wholes... anyway pop out that ring with a screwdriver or scribe... pull out the tapered silencer ring, bam! bam you got a whistlin turbo! careful not to let any FOD (Foreign Object Debris) into that sweet turbo. hit me up if you need any more help.

Remove the crank shaft harmonic balancer by removing it's four bolts. Behind the balancer is a toothed ring called the tone ring, it will slide right off. The tone ring has five holes in it, one is for a dowel pin to hold the ring in exact timing to the crank shaft. The other four are for the balancer retaining bolts. These four holes are a little over sized so that if it wasn't for the dowel pin the ring could be rotated a few degrees. So, drill or file the dowel pin hole in the tone ring enough that the ring can be turned clockwise as viewed from the front till the retaining bolts prevent further movement, retorque bolts. Good for a little more low end torque and about 1.5mpg. Oh, the size of the hole is not important as long as it's big enough.

You have a Smarty... It gives you enough timing, so you don't need it. I took my Rokktech off when I got the Smarty cause it had timing rattle sometimes. Spend your time on something else, you don't need to do it.
yea there is a big snap ring and you take that out and then the silencer ring will come right out after the snap ring it just makes the turbo whistle louder
So I can take the snap ring and silencer ring out, then put the intake tube back on for more turbo whistle. How much louder is it? Is there any other performance gains from this? Thanks for the knowledge.
