Hey all, I've been a member for awhile but rarely check the boards... basically, I've owned my '94 3500 CTD 2wd for a little over a year now and am just starting to get the itch to modify for more power. This being my first one ton dually, and first diesel for that matter, I thought the stock cummins had more than enough power to pull my 18' car trailer loaded with 3/4 ton demo derby trucks. I've added 215/85 R16 Hankook Dynapro A/T tires. The bug finally bit me recently when I built my own version of a BHAF a few weeks ago and heard that turbo for the first time! Well the very next day I went to my local exhaust shop and bought a 5 1/2' length of 3" exhaust pipe and cut my cat and muffler out and welded the straight pipe in. Now that my truck sounds sexier than a straight piped Mack truck, I'm ready to go bigger. Since this is my welding truck, I want to keep it reliable. I scored a pretty good buy (I think) on Ebay yesterday by winning a no-reserve auction on a set of 3 new ISSPRO gauges (pre-turbo pyrometer, manifold pressure, and oil temp, with all senders and wiring harness and EGT probe) for $145 shipped. I also bought an autometer a pillar pod to house them in. I plan to do all the usual (apparently) mods on the p pump (#100 fuel plate, gsk) and would like to find a decently priced larger turbo. My question I guess is this: how far can I go before I need to start looking into head studs and whatnot? What is fire ringing? At what point are injectors a good idea? any help is appreciated!
