I wanna here your 500 RWHP setups

I am wanting to get my 99 24v to around 500 RWHP, but I dont really know where to start. So far all I have done is put a Van Akien BD plug N power box, straight 4" exhaust and just a plain drop in K&N. I am planning on gettind a diffrent filter setup, and I know I will need to upgrade my clutch but I dont know what kind. I would like something that I can drive to work if I need to, and everynow and then smoke a couple of rice burners at the local drags.
Thanks for all info.

From what I have read you will definately need an upraded clutch, and then I think a good set of sticks, an upraded turbo, a better filter set up than a K&N, and a box stack like the comp/tst set up and that should get you pretty close.

The drop in k&n on the stock box was good for my 492 run, but there can be some sealing issues with that setup so plan on doing something eventually in that department.

For the clutch look at the FE from sbc. If you plan on sled pulling or drag racing a dual disk can get r done, but at more than twice the cost =\ There's other options such as a luk cermametallic, zoom, or valair but sbc is a proven option and Peter offers great customer service after the sale.

Then you need more fuel and air. There's dozens of turbo variations that will support 500, I chose the phatshaft =P As far a fuel goes you can add fuel with injectors and with a fueling box. Some mach 4's (150 hp injector) and a tst box should get you into the 500's. Heck if ya look it charlie8301's profile he made it to 470+ with just the mach 1.5's which are what, like 85 hp injectors?

Prove it

Seriously though I think if the so pump works out for you, you're gonna be right under 500 with the tst off

check out my sig...i have a reliable 500hp now that i drive everyday.

there are two ways to do it...you can make 500hp or you can make a reliable 500hp. the latter of the 2 costs ALOT more. you will need to rebuild the head, o-ring it, and get a better gasket with studs, get a DD clutch because at 500hp even the Con FE is at its max rating, and will probably not last very long if you dont drive like grandpa. also turbo wise...you can get a turbo thats small and have great spool-up but not cool AS WELL on the top end. or you can go bigger to keep it cool but your everyday driving wont be fun with the lag of the charger. or if you really have deep pockets, go with twins and have the best of both worlds.

its up to you, you can get small cheap injectors, a fueling box, and turbo, throw on some nitrous and make 500hp on the dyno...but it wont last more then a few WOT blasts on the street before you sart popping headgaskets etc.

I made 500 (496) using a Power Puck, FMS, DD3m sticks and a Kwik Spool B1B turbo. Supporting mods include AirDog for fuel, BHAF for air, and a homemade 4" ex.

It is pretty easy to get 500 on the ground with a VP-44.

To get 500 HP to the ground, I would say to get a reliable 500 for a daily driver, you would need maybe 5000.00? Would everyone here say that is reasonable? That includes the clutch. For an auto, it would be more than 5000.00.

quads4_life, As Marine stated, Cost will be high, I have spent around +8k. I can get 428 with out the drag comp on, 457 with the box on No. 1 setting, 528 set on 5x5. I don't have the head o-ringed or the ARP studs (yet) but you should have that in your plans. As getblown5.9 said unless you drive like a grandpa, hmmm - I am a grandpa
Regards, Gene

Depending on how you go it could cost upwards of 5,000 easily. In my case clutch, guages, exhaust, air dog, and head work you'd already be at $5,000. Now you put injectors, box/s, and turbo/s your adding another $3500-7000.
With an SO vp 500 should be pretty easy. Here's a list that IMO and from what I've seen will work
guages
exhaust
fuel pump-fass, air dog, walbro, and many others
clutch-I prefer DD
injcetors- 150-180 RWHP
box- this could be something like edge comp, TST comp, Blue chip FMS
turbo- a 62/14 will work but they get very hot. IMO a 64/14 for a single would work better, or you could go twins.

depending on if you buy new or used here is how i see it for a SAFE AND RELIABLE 500rwhp from a 99 5spd (SO pump)

o-rings- $300
gasket- $200
studs- $400
injectors (150-220hp)- $900-1200
drag comp or TST comp- $700
turbo-$1400
intake- $200
4 or 5" Exhaust- $400-$800 (your preference)
fuel system upgrade- $300-700 (again your preference)
clutch (DD)- $1800
input shaft for DD- $600-700
gauges- $200-500 depending on your set-up

im coming up with anywhere from anywhere from $7k-9k, depending on if you want high end exhaust, gauges or fuel system or just the bare minimum to patch it enough to get by. ii listed a DD clutch because if you are gonna daily drive that thing, and plan to tow, a single disk SBC rated for 500hp will only last so long. i learned the lesson that you should always get a clutch rated for about 100hp more than you want to make. this leaves room for a little abuse before you spending money to upgrade or replace it again.

like i said you can do it without some of the stuff above...but it wont be safe, and you will be fixing it more than driving it...trust me i been there this past summer (ie: 10+ weeks without my truck while i fixed it)

I'm over 500hp with what's in my sig. And I tow something just about every weekend. Don't forget to check out the classifieds on the various diesel sites. You can sometimes pick up used parts for a fraction of the cost.
