Re:HX40/35-14

I read your posts, I know Rod is not a big fan of HX35/40 Hybrids, but I got a smokin deal ($500) from a buddy who bought one from Diesel Dynamics, it was new in the box, has 14cm wastegated housing and I think it's awesome, small lag on take off but spools much quicker once it's turning, just did some traveling through CO. hauling my 3000# + Camper, hit 10,000'+ several times and never backed off the throttle or saw a temp above 1250, on most hard climbs it leveled off to 1150-1200.

New I think they run about $800, worth the money in my opinioin.

Sorry Rod!

Do you have to ballance the rotating assembly if you put on a HX-40 compressor pinwheel, or can I just bolt it on with the new housing, and be good to go?

Re:HX40/35-14

So this will convert your hx 35 to a 40 with a 3 inch outlet. I dont want to loose my exhaust brake, but want to reduce egt's. This is exactly what i am looking for as well. Is this correct that it will convert everything over to a 40 but keep the outlet at 3 inch?

If you want to be very precise, yes, you should have the rotating assembly rebalanced. But, all the pieces are individually balanced, so you can just put it together and go.

Well, sort of. The front half of the turbo (compressor) will be the HX 40 parts, the middle and back or exhaust half (turbine) remains unchanged. A HX 40 would have a bigger turbine housing and wheel as well as the larger exhaust outlet.

Re:HX40/35-14

It will help. EGTs won't climb quite as fast, and will recover quicker. As you know, improved air flow is the way to help control EGTs when adding more fuel. The hybrid moves more air. Don't set the boost higher than what is needed to clear up the smoke, anything beyond that is just heating up the intake charge and adding restriction to the exhaust. (Boost rule of thumb: 1psi/10hp.)

I see you already have the 4" exhaust and BHAF, those will help you too. You might consider a way to draw outside air into your BHAF if you're not already doing that.

Re:HX40/35-14

The 35/40 sounds good but I think I'm going to a PDR40/16 with a WG. I will be over 400hp soon and don't think the small 35 will handel it with the wg blocked I peg my boost guage at 40psi very easy so I droped to a 16 housing and I can still peg the 40 guage easy. I'm going to get a bigger guage soon so I can tell how many psi I was running with the 16 housing. but for 200 bucks that price is hard to beat when a PDR 40 is over 1000 green backs :-

Re:HX40/35-14

What was the price on the unit you bought? Is it the same one they are talking about on this thread?
