HTT HX35/40 machining question?

What part of the turbo does HTT machine when they modify it to accept the HX40 compressor wheel?

The cartridge or center bearing housing between the compressor & turbine sections.

I believe the centersection where the comp wheel is recessed. (Has to be machined bigger to accept larger dia. wheel.)

My HTT upgrade for my WH1C (not to be confused with the HX's) had a machined backplate to accept the larger than stock WH1E wheel but it was not a stock WH1C compressor it is a larger WH1E compressor. The opening where the wheel is indeed larger. The HTT upgrade to make a hybrid 35/40 would be a hx40 compressor.

PS it's well worth the upgrade!!!!!!!

No I don't think so unless HTT's compressor wheel is made somehow to make it work, kinda tired but I don't think it would be possible at all.

I just took the centersection of a hx40 ran the hx35 impellershaft through it(that way the recess is already the right size), so on the back side I bolted the hx35 exhaust housing, so 80% of my turbo is actually the hx40

In my case they jambed the biggest wheel to fit a WH1E (equiv. to an HX40) compressor.

If you do a hx stage III upgrade you get a new wheel and new compressor housing.

HTT will do a rebuilt for you...

On the hx35 the center section has to be machine to fit the new compressor wheel... (the diameter is bigger..) and you get a new compressor housing.. f(60mm/40 housing)

On the H1C you get a new backing plate for the compressor housing.. (it bolts on the H1C... its part of the center section on the hx35) and the wheel and compressor housing.. They do have a stage 4 for the H1C (and not the hx35).. but not really sure that its better than the 3 for the hx35..
Call Paul at HTT, and quiz him...

If you take the divider out of the turbine hsg right to the leading edge of the waste gate hole you'll pick up more flow, I did. Less material = more room = more flow. Granted you'll possibly need more than modded 12cm has to offer depending on your flow requirements. Ever notice that the HY35 with a tiny 9cm hsg is undivided? I've been running my modded hsg for almost 3 months I'll have to run it longer to make sure that I didn't shorten the life of the turbine hsg by partially removing the divider. It stands to reason that if you remove a structural piece such as that it might expand and contract differently and therein crack, a chance I'm willing to take. If it does crack I'll upgrade to a 14cm hsg. It's experimental no way around it. We'll see what happens!

I've been running a HTT Stage III with a stock 12 housing for a couple of years now. Great upgrade! It'll get hot with my mods if I really push it - the 4gsk had an impact in making the EGTs go up faster.

I machined my own as I had access to a large lathe. A Bridgeport with a rotary table will also work. I left the exhaust housing on my truck and just pulled the front 2 sections of the turbo. I then removed the front section and the compressor wheel, mounted the center section in the lathe and made the recess a little bigger diameter (say .125" bigger x .020" deep). Slapped it back together. One thing you should get is a new oil return gasket as it wasn't included in the kit when I did my upgrade.
