hummer wheel machining
I just picked up a set of 4 H2 wheels and caps for 180.00 off e bay. (+75.00 shipping)
Im looking for someone that has access to machining to open them up for me. Anyone near Detroit that wants to help out/ make a few bucks?
Thanks
Mike

Yes, i am going to cut mine, i think that is the only way.
H2 wheel conversion
I like these directions best. Hoot, do those center caps hold good. Whats the trick to cutting the ends of those tangs?

Diese,
I ground off the extra metal from the mounting tabs with a bench grinder. You don't have to be precise with this but you must get the minimum removed or they may get stuck or just won't catch. The harder and more dangerous part is cutting the plastic "ring" off the cap. There are many good ways to do this but I mounted a Makita circular saw blade in the drill press and set it up to the right height from the table (this is a small blade for the old battery saws that is about 3" in diameter). Next you set the cap on the table and CAREFULLY approach the blade. I found making a bunch of plunge cuts around the perimeter caused less grabbing. Again, be careful with this step. Another good way that has been mentioned is using the table saw with the cap held vertically against the rip fence. Just enough blade showing to cut the thickness of the material.
Once thay are done they snap on and hold very well. And I think they look better on the H2 wheels than they do on the Dodge wheels.
