Flywheel Machining Question
Okay, well I just got my full feramic clutch kit with the heavy duty bearing and heavy duty spring upgrade, and was told that I had to have my flywheel machined out to 7" and recommended having it resurfaced while I was at it (which I planned on doing anyways).
Now I don't really know exactly he meant by saying it must be machined out to 7", I was at work and didn't have much time to talk to him in depth about it. Anyhoo, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what exactly he meant by that, and if that's something that most any place that machines flywheels can do, that way I'm a little more informed when I take it to the place to have it done.
Also if anyone knows of a good place in the greater San Antonio area that they'd recommend for taking my flywheel to, I would appreciate it greatly.

I'm assuming your talking about a valair clutch with the heavy springs. you have to have the center(or the dished in part) opened up so the springs will clear. most machine shops should be able to do this, or you can get a 24valve 5speed flywheel. they require no machining...
Well I could have gotten a brand new flywheel already machined out from the same place for $200, but I was trying to minimize my expenses. Still behind from Christmas, and I doubt my clutch will last much longer. Been slipping for the last month with me babying it, but since I drive around rough terrain every day on the job sites, I'm almost sure it'll give up the ghost soon...

Just tell them you need to have the crank flange area widened from x to 7" to clear the clutch springs, and they should understand. It should be a 15 minute job from setup to take down for a competent machinist.
