HP Fuel lines
HP Fuel lines
A friend of mine bought a 96 Ram with the cummins, all the work done to the truck was done by the previous owner, and he has a set of stainless braided fuel lines installed from the pump to the injectors and the return line. I was wondering does someone make a premade kit for this or is this just a self engineered deal? I cracked my return line at the filter when I was bleeding it, and the original lines just look kinda crappy with flaky black paint anyways so they all would benefit from replacing. I've looked into it a little bit, but the AN sizes the lines and fittings come in I know nothing about, and then theres the subject of the ends where the line connects to the injectors/pump, and how to adapt that to the braided lines? Anyone?
If not does anyone know where I can get a line set that's stronger than stock and maybe looks better?

Injection lines are tricky buggers- they must be the ecact same length for example because their elastic behaviour is part of the injector discharge pressure curve. I can't imagine stainless braided lines being the right thing for the job. But on our side of the pond some guys pull some stainless braided lines over the stock injector lines with some fake fittings to make them look good.

I've never seen anything like that. I wouldn't suggest messing with the high pressure lines, they all need to be the same length for proper timing and they need to be properly secured to prevent them from beating themselves to death from the pressure pulses.
edit: Dang, you're quick tonight, Markus!

On his truck I have noticed that, they jump around with the pulses, but they have quite a number of holddowns. They are the same length across the board though.
Is there anyone that makes a polished set by chance? I'm not too much into show, but i don't like flaking paint either, and I just repainted them about a year ago and already they've begun flaking again. So any ideas for aftermarket replacements?
And with aftermarket fuel plates, injectors, and all that, does the line pressure increase from the pump? How much pressure will the stock lines hold? Or should I even be worried about that? This is all concern coming from an unknown source, the previous owner said he busted the stock lines because of too much fuel pressure , hence the reason for the braided lines. I've never heard of this but thought it was worth asking about to make sure.

That ain't good, they will fatigue and break eventually. I have never heard of stock lines failing unless somebody bent them.
The reason paint flakes off is: 1 - they get dang hot and # 2 - the injection line stretches every time fuel is injected. Just your cross to bear. Can't take 'em off and have 'em chromed, either, chrome plating will make them brittle and they'll crack.
