How to tell whats been done?

I just got a super clean 97 2500 4x4 auto with 112xxx on the ticker, and i am wondering how i can tell whats been done to it besides tracking down the prev. owner (i bought it at a dealer who got it from another dealer)
I know it has tranny mods but it still has the stock pan on it, and it rolls a little smoke when i get her rollin, it pulls about 25-27 psi at 6000 ft elevation. I'm assuming it has a plate but i dont know which one, and i havent tore into it to see how far forward it is. Any advice i would appreciate, thanks, Jordan

look at the tamper screw on the top left of the AFC housing on the injection pump if it is replace or has a slot or torqs bit shape to the center it has been removed and it probobly has a plate. if you remove it and check the profile there is a guy on here that has a chart that shows all the profiles and you can see what you have and find out the hp/tq raitings.

right on ill give that a check, i am figuring that it has a plate, probably a 10, in the stock position, but the main thing im wondering is the tranny, and what has been done to it. im thinkin it has an aftermarket valvebody cause the tranny temps stay pretty dang low, like 130-140 under normal driving conditions. anyways thanks again in advance.

Also, What does it rev too? If it goes to 3000 or more you most likely have a GSK in it.

Do a search on here for 3kgsk or 4kgsk. It stands for governor spring kit. Its a kit that alows your truck to fuel longer, so more rpm. 3kgsk will fuel to 3000-3400 rpm and a 4kgsk to 4000 and more. If you go with the 4k you will need the #60 valve springs.
