How much timing is too much?
How much timing is too much?
You can see my mods in my sig, I am looking for a little more high RPM power and was curious if i could run any more advance with studs and a marine gasket without too much of a risk of blowing the head gasket. I was thinking maybe 20* what do you guys think?
my friend is running 24* on his truck with stock bolts and a marine gasket. It has bd injectors, 191 dv and a stock charger. he made 390 hp on dunbars at diesel mania over the weekend. it hasent poped the head in over 50,000 miles. when i get some more fuel and a charger my timing will also be set that high. Another buddy runs 28* on a marine gasket and stock head bolts. and brian block actually recomended 28* for big horsepower. the marine motors run 22* so i would feel safe running 24* on a truck with marine gasket and studs as long as drive pressure is kept in check and your not making more than 50 psi on that killer b2 it should survive.1:1 is 45 with that charger.
What could I get away with on mine? It's at 16.5 deg now. I have the stock headgasket and headbolts, an htb2-64 14 cm, and boost is at 42 pounds. I guess there's not much room left for more timing?
