Helix 3 cam, who's running it?
Helix 3 cam, who's running it?
I just want to know how well the Helix 3 is. I am trying to decide which cam I am going to put in the 12 valve I am building. It is going to be a puller and driven everyday.
The helix 3 is a race cam. I was told for towing and daily driving the h2 was a better choice. With the H3, you definitely have to do the valve springs.
From what I understand though from the one person I know that has it, there is not that much difference between the 2 and 3. I would guess the more extreme your power, the more the H3 would make sense.

How tight is your Torque convertor? I have been running an H3 for about 2 weeks now in my pulling/daily driven 12V. The truck is single turbo and has never had anything but diesel fuel run through it. no NOS or water meth. I get a little stumble at low RPMs and you absolutely can not lug it or the truck will basically die.
My experiences are this:
if you just throw it to the floor from idle, the truck stumbles and almost cuts off, if you want to launch on the street bring it up to about 1500RPMs power breaking and let er' rip. I dont let it shift til at least 2k but you can roll on the truck pretty hard with any RPM's above 1800~ish and it goes no problem. get it up past 2200-2500 RPMs and hold on. Milage satyed the same or actually a little better from the stock cam. Morale of the story, yes you can drive it on the street without NOS or water meth it just takes some adaptation. Can anyone jump in the truck and drive it no problem, NO, but once you get used to it, it really isnt that bad at all.

my converter isn't real tight and the truck is getting built pretty well including a "stage 3" head. I am also running twins, 62/14 and S400. I was just wondering about street manners of the cam. Thanks for the input Scott.

I chose it for the high RPM power characteristics, and when the rules around here actually get updated a little (as this area grows more accustomed to high HP trucks and the requirement for different classes) i will probably start running water meth and eventualy either a HUGE single or a big set of twins. I did it more in prep for later than out of necesity for right now. Otherwise i would have had to change it out later and sell off the H2 i was thinking about.
