Guage install question
Guage install question
I will be installing di-pricol FP, Boost & Pyro guages when they arrive from Geno's. FP guage is on back order so I want to get everything I need to do the install right the first time. Is there anything I need that doesn't come with the guages? I think the FP kit comes with plastic tubing. I have been reading that some of you have been using stainless steel braided line for this. Any suggestions?
Re:Guage install question
I just installed my gauges and had pretty much everything I needed, except for additional wire to go to power and ground for the pyro and lights, the necessary butt splices and connectors, and mini-fuse taps. All of my gauges are mechanical except the pyro. If yours are electrical, you may need more wire connectors/splices. Of course I had to paint the pillar pod, but that was done before the gauge install.
For the boost gauge I just used the 1/8 plastic line that came with it because it wasn't running near anything hot.
You will find a plugged hole in the firewall, to the left of the steering column, that is perfect for running the wires/lines through. I just pulled mine out and cut it in a cross (+) pattern so I souldn't open up a big hole I have to plug up, and it also works as a grommet to keep the lines/wires from being rubbed.
As far as your FP gauge, I don't know whether the one you got is electric or mechanical. If electric, you have nothing to worry about. If mechanical, like my Autometer, you should get a pice of steel braided line with it. You should also get a fuel isolator, so that no fuel ever gets inside the cab. This is very important for gas engines due to fire hazard, but could be considered equally important on diesels because, as I hear it, if you get diesel into the carpet, you'll never get the odor out.
Wire the lights into the 5 amp fuse in the box, which is for the lights, and will dim when you dim the gauge lights.

Make sure you tap the fuse on the outside so the fues will handle your additional circuit too. (the power runs down the middle of the fuse panel)

Any other questions?

Chris
