There was a great article in Diesel Power Mag I believe last month. They went through the different things 12 valve owners can do to the P-pump for extra power all a the cost of your own labor. There are around 96 ponies sitting under your hood waiting to get out without dropping a dime. I would make suggestions however I am not a 12 valve guy and can't remember everything that was done. Give it some time and someone will chime in.
I know how you feel....I got beat off the line by a durango one day...not a good feeling..

Hah.. My wife's 04 Hemi Durango (4x4) could whoop my 3500 from the line pretty regularly..............with her driving it no less! That thing was quick but didn't tow very well.

Best cure for that was trading in the Durango for a new V-6 Trailblazer, and the insurance savings now go to a slush fund to "fix" the old 24v

my of my funniest moments when I was driving across oregon and up to seattle washington.. on I-5 there was a neon srt. (little turbo chick car) it kept trying to race me on the freeway.. I would but not when I have the family in the truck. funny thing was about 350 miles in the trip I passed him because he was out of fuel I kept on going... but also I bet if you put 5k behind that 1500 or durango and then behing your truck the story would be different also if you had a to pull it up a hill...
it is fun to drive the wifes hemi magnum with all of the badges off of it and pull up to someone in a ricer or a ricer want to be... my wifes car looks like a old lady wagon...

I agree, it's time to turn your workhorse into a hotrod. Is 94' old enough to be considered a classic?

My 95' auto with stock 160 HP was pretty slow at the drag strip, 20.4 seconds or something like that, it calculated to less than 140 HP to rear wheels. The new 1500 Rams with the Hemi run about 16 flat at Las Vegas's heat and elevation.

I did free modifications such as removed the fuel plate, disabled the wastegate, and did a little grinding and free modifications to the AFC arm, and installed a $100 PacBrake governor spring kit and it ran 15.575 @ 86.16 which calculates to 240 horsepower at the wheels. At Las Vegas's elevation, 15.57 will beat pretty much any stock 1500, even the new 390 HP ones.

A few weeks after that, I advanced the timing (free modification, no special tools needed except for a 30mm socket and a puller to pull the pump gear free from the shaft) and ran 15.194, which equated to roughly 250 HP to the rear wheels and that time is fast enough to beat almost every stock 1/2 ton out there.

A few weeks later I added some DDP 024 delivery valves $240 to my door at the time. 1/4 mile time improved to 14.651 @ 93.03 MPH, this brought the power up to 300 HP at the wheels.

The 94's and 95's have the smallest injection pumps and smallest injectors so the gains from pump tweaks a less than with the newer 96'-98' trucks with 180HP and 215HP pumps.

I'd guess that close to 350 HP at the wheels could be made with a 96'-98' truck with 100% free modifications.

It really is amazing how much power can be made without putting too many parts into them, especially for towing. My boss is an avid Ford rules Dodge drools guy, and his old 99 F250 7.3 could "flip my truck on its side" if it wanted to! He has a new truck now, but I had to give him a ride the other day because his new powerstroke was BROKEN (salt in the wound for him) and he was actually impressed with the giddy up my truck had. Now he wants to race when his truck is out of the shop. I just hope I beat him, he's such a donkey its not even funny.

I think any Kia could beat my truck off the line. But by 3rd gear, I'm quicker than 65% of the vehicles out there, and in top gear roll-on, probably faster than 90% in my locale.

It works for me.
