gear ratio for racing or pulling

What ratio do you drag racers go with? Pullers?

Re:gear ratio for racing or pulling

Just a guess, but I bet it's somewhat split over which transmission is in front of the gear ratio.

For example, my truck has 4.10s with a 5 speed. The 5th gear ratio is .75 so that makes my 4.10s final drive ratio 3.075. However, if I had a 47RE, over drive is .69 * 4.10 is 2.829.

Using 245/75/16 tires, this translates to 103 MPH for the auto and 94 MPH for the 5 speed at 3200 RPM redline for the same 4.10 rear end. For drag racing, this is a huge difference.

The other thing that makes a big difference is tire size. I like my 4.10's because I can run 35's or 36's eventually and not worry about lugging the engine. I do hate running at 2500 RPM to run 70 MPH down the highway now with my 33's but I think it's worth it in the long run.

Oh. To kinda halfway answer your question, I plan to both sled pull and run my truck in the 1/4 once or twice to see what it will do with my 4.10's. ;D

All the MPH/RPM/gearing info was obtained from Dave Fritz's site
