gear noise

Well guys I now know the problem is rear end noise. The gears are whinning under load light throttle. Can hear It slightly going thru the gears but once i get to 50mph it really whines. Then when I am slowing down it makes a growling noise at about 20 mph. I had new gears put in about three weeks ago and everything was real quiet. Then all of a sudden this whine started.
They have about 2000 miles on them. I cannot find anyone in Indiana to work on it so I am going to take it to Drivetrain specialist in Michigan on Mon. I hope they can get rid of this noise.

It sounds like you have lost your preload on the pinion and this you have a pinion which is moving, thus changing the tone whether in accel or decel... You need to look at this ASAP, waste no time in opening it up....

Thats what I thought also. But I cannot find anyone in Indiana who will work on it that is competant. And my only choice is in Michigan. It is progressively getting worse. The groan on decel is worse also. Seems to be worse when fluid warms up.Does anyone know anyone in Indiana who can fix this?

Sounds like something is comming apart. Either not torqued up enough or over torqued. The more you drive it the less likely the gears will be reuseable. I did deal with drivetrain specialists in mich a couple times when I lived there. Seemed to have fair pricing. There is also Arrow truck in down town detroit. They are ok too. Good luck
