Gauges installed......... now what?
Gauges installed......... now what?
i installed a pyro, tranny and boost gauge in my 99..
tranny isn't totally working, as it got dark before i could finish the job
anyway...... EGT's are around 400* empty just driving around town. getting on a steep freeway on ramp, the hottest i could get it up to was 900*
around town if i lay into it at a stop light, i may see 15 psi of boost.. on the same freeway on ramp, they highest it got was around 23 psi. just flat surface streets i see 1-5 psi
i tow a lot with this truck (2 times a month, 350 miles each way, around 8K-15K)
i have a K&N drop in filter and Edge EZ.... and i think i need a boost elbow? when i hit 23 psi, it seems like thats all it'll put out. RPMs keep climbing, but boost flatens out..
will the added boost help or hurt my EGTs when towing? should lower them, right?

Where's your pyro mounted? Pre or post turbo? I don't know how the auto would differ in the pyro readings, but I can get up to 600 just running up to 4th gear in town. Thats going real easy on it. Might get 1 or 2 psi of boost.
Boost is only gonna help you if you have hot EGT's. If they are within reason, no need to add more boost. If it gets hot towing, then a boost elbow wouldn't hurt.
BTW, do you have a fuel pressure gauge on the way?

i have a DTT tranny... it really locks up good. it'll lock up around 45 and i can hammer the throttle and the egts are solid..
for some reason i thought the boost elbow was standard equipment with most chips/tuners.. but i wouldnt know, the truck had the EZ when i bought it.
sorry i forgot..
no FP gauge on the way........ as of yet. i just installed a campaign pump from Cummins about a month and a half ago.. checked the FP on the schrader valve and i had about 10 PSI while idling. since i dont have major fueling mods, i figured i would be able to squeeze by with it for a little while. i have been checking it here and there and the pressure has been the same
