Fuel pressure slow to build after relocating LP

I installed a Vulcan big line kit last night a mounted a new LP as close as I could get it to the tank. I can't find any leaks but it takes 30 secs. to a minute for me to build any fuel pressure after the truck is started. I can bump the starter and I hear the pump running but no pressure is built. Is this normal or am I sucking air somewhere?

I have the vulcan kit and have had no problem such as yours. I would check the suction line, to make sure it is not sucking air, also, make sure the air is out of the system after the pump, maybe crack the fuel filter canister to bleed it. Could your LP be on its' way out? I have been very happy with my retro! It has solved my pump problems so far!

No afiliation, just happy!

Bob

Do you have a needle valve controlling your gage? Try opening it up a little more.

Brand new LP was part of the install, no needle valve, just a snubber.

Once the system builds pressure it stays at ~12-14psi, even at WOT (empty). It just takes time to build pressure. I am going to try another hose clamp on the 3/8" line connecting to the stock hard line tommorow to try and eliminate any possible suction of air.

Probably just air in the system. Try the extra clamp, then wait a few days. Sometimes it just takes some time to get all the air out.

Let us know how it goes.

I just installed the Vulcan big line relo kit and had a problem starting the engine after a couple of cycles of the LP. No fuel. The pump ran and ran sounding like it was not pulling/pushing fuel. As it turns out, I had below a 1/2 tank of fuel, I was parked with the front end up hill about 5% and the pump would not prime. I simply added 10 gals to the tank and Then I could hear the pump bog down with fuel (which I didn't hear when it was sucking air). It works fine now. Just be careful NOT to run the FP too long with no fuel inside. I have a feeling this is why some folks burn their brand new pumps out so quickly. No prime, no fuel, just the sound of a high speed, dry pump.
regards, as always, jefe

I'm running a full tank now, the sound of the pump running doesn't change as the pressure builds on the gauge. I'm adding another hose clamp and re-bleeding any air that might be in the gauge tonight and will post the results.

I`m just throwing ideas out here, but did you bleed the fuel system after you did the retro kit. I`m sure you did, but it was just a thought.

Also, Wes, where are you in TN ? Just curious because there is a Mid TN TDR meeting this weekend in Dickson. You`re more than welcome to come join us if your interested.

When I installed everything I cycled the pump with the fuel bowl drain open until fuel started pouring out. Is there a better way to prime the system? I've put about 200 miles on it since installing the kit, I would think any air not being sucked into the system would have worked its way out by now?

I'm in Nashville, I have other obligations with weekend but I might check out a meeting one of these days.

Mmm, might want to bleed up by the IP, not at the btoom of the canister. (next time)

I'm thinking you have a guage plumbing issue, you should see some fluctuation from idle to WOT. I think after 200 miles your "air free", you've got another problem, not with the relo kit, not with the LP. I'd look at the gauge itself and related tubing/fittings.

Good call. While I was out putting an extra hose clamp on the intake line and bleeding the gauge I decided to pull the gauge line entierly and re-route it. I didn't find any obstructions or kinks but after re-installing the gauge everything is as it should be. I am seeing 13psi at idle, 11.5 psi cruising, and just barely below 10psi at WOT, empty. Thanks for all the input everyone.
