fuel plate question

I installed a #10 plate in my truck (see signature) its all stock other wise
so my question is I followed the directions and was a little confused when it told me to put the guild plate in to set it and then it told me to slide it all the way forward see instruction witch means moving it toward the rear of the truck
so the plate part didnt make sense
anyway the truck runs better revs a little freer as in builds revs quicker smoke was non existent unless under full throttle in 3rd then it was heavy and black
is this the desired result

thanks in advance Steve

you may have to do a little adjusting on the plate.... I had a 98 12 valve that I was playing. when I took my #10 out and put it in my buddies truck his ran like #@&*! every truck runs a little different. he ended up going with a #9 and the truck ran great. so try tweaking the plate a little and I would definately get that thing to start breathing before put it under too much load.....fwiw.

What they mean is

Install the guide and slide it back (towards fire wall) against the factory plate, then tighten the screws holding the guide.

Remove the fatory plate and install the new plate, making sure to slide it forward (toward the radiator) against the guide and tighten the plate srews.

Then remove the guide...... Make sense?

Basically they just want to make sure you get the new plate in the exact same position as the old plate. What I do is scribe a small line in the housing in front of the plate, then I don't need to use the guide at all, just line up the new one to the scribe mark. Make sure you install the boost elbow, and follow the instuctions for the AFC tuning and you should have a kick butt running truck.

Let us know if you need anything else....Josh

Oh couple more things...

If you don't have gauges, Get Them!!!! (Atleast a pyrometer) your truck will run hotter with this plate and you don't want to damage it

Also if you have the stock clutch, be ready to buy a better one, that plate will very likely slip the stocker quite easily.

Have fun....Josh

further towards the front of the truck gives it more fuel... while youre in there adjust the starwheel counter clockwise if you are looking at it from the front of the truck. it loosens the spring allowing more travel before tthe preboost fuel stop kicks in.

I moved the plate back to its original position the truck seems to have stock like pull to about 1800 then it pulls a lot harder to 2500 and it starts smoking at 2200 but its gray and thick

so plate moved a head gave it more power from idle to about 2000 then just a little more from there and black smoke

I was wondering it I should tune the smoke out if it Im going to install a pryro on monday LOL Im going to steal the 1 from my race for the time being

I have read I should want no more than 1200 f is that correct

1200 is safe even for extended periods of time... adjusting the starwheel and sliding the housing forward will give you alot more low end power. dont forget to monitor boost and put an albow in. shoot for 35 psi... thats when the charger loses its efficiency.
