Fuel Plate Positioning??
Fuel Plate Positioning??
I saw a post not too long ago regarding moving the fuel plate foward and backward and its effect on power. I have done a couple of searches but I cannot find it. I am going to put a #11 plate in my truck tomorrow and want to do it "right". I did one on my last CTD but I have learned from this site that there is alot of power to be found by tuning. From what I understand the further towards the front of the truck I move the plate the more fuel I'll be giving it. Therefore I'd guess I should put the new plate further foward than the stock one in order to get maximum power??

Thanks.

John

Re:Fuel Plate Positioning??
I know that you are supposed to put them where the stock one was but you are also supposed to leave the cat on and are supposed to run a muffler but we all know how that goes. Anyway, are you getting alot of smoke by running it all the way foward dodgeman? I'd love some smoke as much as the next red blooded American guy but I need to keep it within reason. I figure I'd run it a bit back of full foward and adjust the spring as best I can. If I can get it pretty clean then I'd try moving it foward some more. Does it come down to "foward=more power+more smoke" + "back=less power+less smoke"? Now, if this darn rain would stop for a few hours tomorrow I'd be all set.

John

Re:Fuel Plate Positioning??
You got it, forward=more power. If you go all the way forward then you might need to adjust the lever that strikes the plate as seen on Piers's website. It sortof calibrates the lever to the new position of the plate, of which is a pain to get to. If you get to that much teardown you might as well put in a GSK

Your funny Aaron you showed me how much smoke those stacks throw at BMD Dyno Day and I appreciate it! Can't wait till I get stacks, but alas must find a Club Cab first! :'(

Re:Fuel Plate Positioning??
Put it in the stock position for now, and when you get a GSK and injectors then start moving it up. Sometimes the stock position is more than enough until you get the other parts to take advantage of moving the plate.
Re:Fuel Plate Positioning??
Well, I put the #11 plate in, the stock one was only 1/8" from all the way foward so I put the new one all the way up. I had to loosen the AFC up quite a bit to get her to smoke at all under load. She really pulls hard now. Unfortunately the stock clutch is slipping in 4th and 5th now and I haven't even put the 16cm2 housing on. I guess it's time for a clutch. I know many you here use a South Bend and they are great clutches but does anyone use one of the TST Ceramic Button Clutches? While I'm on the subject of transmissions how involved is it to put the updated 5th gear nut in since I am gonna have the trans out anyway? Thanks again to everbody who gave me advice, I can't believe the d*mn clutch is slipping though.

John

[undecided]
Re:Fuel Plate Positioning??
atc250r, do you have a pyrometer mounted pre-turbo in your truck? If not, I suggest you slide the plate back until you get one. With an 11 plate all the way forward in a 2175 cpl, you can easily exceed the safe limit for EGTs.
Re:Fuel Plate Positioning??
MD,

Thanks for the warning. I have an EGT on the way and I will be moving the plate anyway because I am overpowering the clutch pretty badly. I need to get some time out of the stock clutch so I can save up some money for an aftermarket one.

John
