crankshaft positioning sensor??????

Hi there guys. I have a question. My truck was doing everything you guys describe for the crankshaft sensor to be going bad. The RPM guage going to zero, losing power, etc.... Well I waited too long to go get another one I think and finally the truck died. It started out by really kicking and bucking but made it home. So I got a new fuel filter etc,... and tried that. I took it for a test drive and it died on the side of the road. After towing it home I got the sensor. Put it in today...still won't start. Cranks and cranks. Did I do something wrong or is there something else causing this?

My 99 died with no warning at all. The codes said crankshaft position sensor and 1689 no communication ...
Dead injector pump.

We replaced the crank position sensor and it turned over fine but no start and fuel at the injectors.

I had no problems with gages. I didn't notice the lack of power untill we replaced the IP. Then there was a noticable difference in power gain.

Clay,

Where are you at in Ohio? I'm not certain that a bad CKP could totally kill the truck, but I suppose anything is possible.

Oh, one small thing, but don't take it the wrong way.... your truck has a Cummins engine, not a cummings. Welcome aboard!

more info please?

Thank you for the spelling correction. My wife posted that for me and I never checked it. Apparently she spelled it like she says it. lol This Ingnition pump...I have never changed one. Is this something I can do myself? Any helpful tips out there for a mechanically minded person who doesn't want to go in blind if he doesn't have to? Oh, and I am located in northern OH in Ashland County.

Changing an IP the first time for a weekend warrior is not for the faint of heart, but make sure you have the service manual with the proper tools and you can do it.
