Does any body have any experience with the 2006 Dodge 3500 TPS.
This seems to be an on going problem with all the Dodge trucks I have owned.
I own two 2004 3500 and I'm on my 3rd on each. I understand the 2004 TPS though. Now my question is on my 2006 Mega cab. It now has about 80k and the TPS is going out. The TPS on the 2006 is completely different from the 2004. i was told you have recalibrate the computer. Does any one have any experience with this matter. Any knowledge on this subject would be appreciated.

 

I don't think there is a TPS any longer. My understanding is that it's all computer controlled starting with the 06s...

 

It would still need a TPS of some kind, unless it's mind controlled like the jet in the movie Firefox ,where you could just think the engine to accelerate .

What he said. Vehicles that are drive by wire (electric accelerator) don't not have tps.

 

No TPS, what they have is an APPS. They really do the same thing. Tomato , tomatoe.

 

I don't think they have either. It is controlled by computer.
Actually some are mind controlled. Mine always shifts exactly when I want it to.....

 

no they don't have a tps but yes they do have a apps had one replaced today.

 

The APPS is how the computer "knows" what you are expecting the eninge to do!

OPERATION

The Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) provides the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with two DC voltage signals which change as the position of the accelerator pedal changes. One of the DC voltage signals will be half the voltage of the other signal.

This is for an early 06

The Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) (1) is located inside the vehicle. It is attached to the accelerator pedal assembly (3).

Do they have to do a computer hookup and programming the ECM when the APPS is changed out? If not, this is certainly a good part to keep in the tool box just in case. Actually, this is a good part to have on hand just in case yours goes out and a dealer does not have one, at least you would be able to keep on truckin' instad of sitting at a dealership waiting for one to come in.

Hmmm, well I was kind of right. It's not in the engine compartment anymore! Ya, that's what I meant to say......

 

So then whats the best way to reset the apps. Without the dealer!

 

You can try the method in the FAQ section at the top of this page. I'm not sure if that still works on the newer trucks were they have moved it up under the dash though....

 

If it works like the vw system (very similar system) then here is how ya reset it.

-Turn the key to the "on" position
-Push the go pedal all the way to the floor
-Hold it there for at least 5 seconds
-Turn the key to the "off" position
-Let up on the go pedal

CAUTION: Do not attempt to separate or remove the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) from the accelerator pedal assembly. The APPS is replaced as an assembly along with the pedal. If sensor is removed from pedal, its electronic calibration may be destroyed.








Disconnect 6 way electrical connector at top of APPS (2).
Remove APPS lower mounting bolt (4) and two mounting nuts.
Remove pedal and APPS assembly from vehicle.
INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Do not attempt to separate or remove the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) from the accelerator pedal assembly. The APPS is replaced as an assembly along with the pedal. If sensor is removed from pedal, its electronic calibration may be destroyed.








Position pedal and APPS assembly to its mounting bracket.
Connect 6 way electrical connector to top of APPS (2).
Install APPS lower mounting bolt (4) and two mounting nuts.
If necessary, use a Scan Tool to erase any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's).
