You will not be disappointed! My first time was this time (yesterday) took me all of about 1 hour start to finish, including adjusting my low speed idle nut. I am a mechanic by trade tho so that may help me to be a bit faster than some.

I found the problem with the my idle hanging at 2K, it was the outside diameter of the washer just as many of you mentioned, it can not be bigger than 1" and the ones I used were about 1.10".

i have a 96 12-valve, i did this meathod, and after being out of surgery for 6 days i did it in about and hour tops. Had to play with the idle screw a little to get it right, no hang ups or anything. i useed a 3/8 washer reamed out to 1/2 inch.pulls real good to 2800 rpms, and free rev to 3200.... my truck is an auto, and i have not had the patience to adjust the throttle stop screw yet though cu i just got out of another sergury ABOUT 3 days ago!!! so im gonna be sidelined for a while...

that is the washer to use!!!! DONT use bigger then 1" outside diameter!

but, empty rev, 3200 seems a bit low for a 96, It should definitly rev to about 3500 empty, and pull over 3000 rpm,

are you sure your throttle linkage is adjusted correctly, i had to adjust that as well, in my old 94, the pedal to the floor, but it did hit the sthrottle stop on the pump.!

well wish you will get well soon!

i finaly got the time to do this on my 97 today. i had no problems with hanging RPMs or anything of the sort. The fuel pedal is a little more touchy but all in all i love it!!

it took me about an hour and a half. start to finish.

it free revs to about 3600 now (3400 free rev stock) and pulls hard to about 3400~3500 RPM runnin down the road

So you have to do anything to the valve train to let it rev that high?

I get up around 2200 and things get real squirrely...alot of racket goin on in the valve train. When I hear about you guys goin to 3400-3600 i think theres no way mine could handle that.

the bar! adjust it so the bar will be just one tad longer then it will go onto the back of the pump! if you make it too short, youll get high idle!

i had to do the same thing on my truck!

yours should rev/pull higher then 3200!

Well I put the washers in today. I used some that were just under 1" OD, 1/2" ID, .088 thickness. When I got in to check the preload the stud height on one side was .016 and .035 on the other. I set them both to .045 after I put the washers in. When I started it, it idled at 1250 rpms. So I backed the idle down to 700 with ac on. The engine will free rev to 3600 but when I get on the road it only revs to 2500 Anyone have any ideas why its not reving higher under load? Oh another thing....I now have to hit the pedal to get it to start otherewise it just cranks.

You have your springs too tight, and your idle screw too low (thats why it doesnt start without pedal.) so loosen your springs a click or two, and higher your idle, and done!

on road it should pull to 3000 at least!

good luck!

i have pics of pumps, but without the bar!

ok there is only one bar on the side of the pump, goes from back to front!

looks like this
0=======\
................\=========O

its adjustable with 10mm nuts... or to first verfify, make someone press the pedal, (motor shut off) and then you pull the bar further forward, see if you can, if you can, you gotta shorten it, by adjusting it!

not sure if thats your prob, but try it!
