Fabbed air intake -- need advice
I need to get my EGT's down. They were a bit high while I was towing a trailer in the Rockies in 100*F this summer, so I thought I'd fool around with the air intake.
I've got an unpinned Comp and 275 injectors. Right now I'm running a Fleetguard AH1902 with a heatshield. That's the marine version of the smaller BHAF, with the waterproof element and the internal screen. I know the first thing a lot of people will say is go with the Scotty II, but I can't cut the hole in the firewall, because that's where the pneumatics for my Jacobs exhaust brake are mounted. Can't remount; there's not a lot of room left around the air filter any more, and that's probably part of my problem. I'm running a small 12v fan in the fender cut-out to get more air to the filter, but I want to do more.
I'd like to go with an AFE and then funnel or blow cool air over the filter. Has anyone enclosed the filter area and then fabbed a conduit from the front of the truck back to it? Or maybe fabbed a conduit from a scoop in the hood? If anyone has done some work like this, I'd sure like to hear from you.
Thanks! I.
BTW -- anyone tried the AFE Pro-Guard 7 filter yet? New media, supposed to pass air like an oiled-gauze filter, but maintain industry filtration standards.
