Okay, got my 4" pipes with a glasspak installed, but I want to replace the glasspak with a resonated AeroTurbine, don't like the drone at 70 in the cab. My question is on exhaust tips like one that flairs from 4" to 5", what does it really do other than look good ? Does it change the tone or volume of the exhaust significantly ?
Yeah tips will change the tone a little bit......but on a diesel it's not a huge noticeable difference......makes a bigger difference on gas motors.
But other than that they just look cool!!!!
Also one thing to keep in mind to cut down on drone, is to make sure that the tip is NOT under the bed of your truck. Having it stick a tad bit outside the bed will cut down on drone a LOT!!! I have mine tucked underneath cuz I like the look of it, but it does drone quite a bit............but I kinda like it!!

When i cut off the end of my stock exhaust, and put on a 5" tip , it changed the sound ALOT , i get some funky noises (echo from inside the tip) around 2200 rpm , but it clears up after that, and it made the truck ALOT louder, almost too loud, although the PD has not bothered me yet , it is just a matter of time , i find myself having to idle by while the PD has ricers pulled over...
I got my exhaust done and put on a 4" tip(free) and that week had to go to school over near the saturn plant. The little 2 lane had PD on both sides of the road assisting a broke down GM product....I tried to idle buy but had to accel up the hill and trying to keep it kinda quiet....
Boy did I get some looks from that guy. It's the barny fife of spring hill......and I guess I was lucky he was busy directing traffic.
Anyhow, my tip is only about 10-12 inches long.....I think if you went with an 18" tip it would be more noticable.....that sentence just does not sound right?? Almost sounds like Jeff Foxworthy's skit, " Bill, you sure got a big deck"

a 4 inch ...... in diameter
I noticed a good increase in sound with my 18" long 4 to 6" tip from Silverline. It seems to be deeper, too. Kinda sounds like I have a 5" system on it now. Great whistle going on, too, especially at lower speeds going through town. Love the echo off trees, houses, other cars. Mine is shootin' straight back and points at the rear axle. Had it out to the side before the rear tire but got tired of cleaning soot - and I don't even smoke that much...yet! Thinking of breaking down and getting a tailpipe over the rear axle so I can show off the tip again.
