Question EDGE Comp Question

OK, I took everyones advice, I canned the Superchip and JVD TE, and installed an EDGE Comp, MAD ECM is on the way. I just have one question. would I gain anything by stacking the Superchip and the EDGE Comp?

If you already have one, I'd try it. Typically the water temp will get to hot on stock cam trucks because of the timing increase. You'll also likely hear addtional timing knock with the stack. There's another thread here about this:

I think the superchip is a programer and if you use it with a catcher it will erase the catcher program from the ECM

I believe he was talking about before the MAD ECM got here. If he's asking about stacking the superchips/mad ecm/comp, then you're correct.

Did you mention you were going to the COMP before ordering your ECM? Might want to make sure your getting the "COMP friendly" program. And don't use the Superchips after installing the ECM.

I've run both the super chip and edge comp box stacked together. I think that both box and the program send too much advance to the VP44 pump. You get lots of hestitions and the truck will start to lay down at WOT. At hiway throttle speeds, it seemed to work and I might have got better fuel mileage. I wouldn't use the superchip program with the mad ECM as the superchip program talks to the ecm and will over-write the MAD ecm codes. If your about to buying a MAD ecm, you'll have to tell them that your going to be using a comp box. They set you up with a MAD ecm with less injection pump advance so it will work with the comp box.

Stacking a comp and a superchips. Couldn't that? Wouldn't that? Pop your head gasket?

That depends on the cylinder pressure - that is what pops head gaskets....You would require a fair bit of additional fuel and of course, the approprate amount of additional boost for that amount of timing advance to put cylinder pressures at the critical point......it would be difficult for timing alone, to cause a cylinder pressure issue, though it is a major factor.

If your worried about your head gasket, just re-torque the head prior to running the comp box. I've heard of a 01 HO truck popping head gaskets at 38 psi. Mine runs 38 psi, so far no issues. Its hard to put down a hard boost number as to when head gaskets blow. I've heard guys running 60psi on a stock gasket, no o-rings and running big injectors. Lots of guys are running injectors and the comp box. How many guys say that this blew the head gasket? Most guys I've heard are running methanol or NOS, to pop the gasket.
